We have all probably seen on the news that Zimbabwe is going through lots of problems. They are experiencing de-industrialization, shortages in food and fuel and their leader is only interested in staying leader. Also a really big problem is inflation. I was reading a while ago that they have had a 1 million% increace in inflation! How does this even come about? What do you guys think about the whole situation over there?
That's what happens to countries that don't follow the rule of law, allow homicidal maniacs to be President and debase their currency to pay off wealthy transnational corporations.
well i think you are right.. President Mugabe has been in office for about three decades now and yet he is not ready to leave.. he just wants to be the president and he doesn't care what people say.. his meeting with the African Union couldn't change him. the inspiring message of Nelson Mandela couldn't move him and he still reigns as the head of state. Poverty is on the rise in Zimbabwe and killings are very rampant these days.. opponents end up in hell and hence nobody is ready to oppose.
Sad to see a resource rich nation go down the drains because of the political ambitions of one person. I just saw their newest currency a $500 billion dollar which is not enough to buy a loaf of bread. I guess they would be better of bartering instead of using such currency.
Zimbabwe will issue a 100 billion note Monday. In January, a 10-million-dollar note was issued, then a 50-million-dollar note in April. In May, notes for 100 million and 250 million dollars were issued, swiftly followed by those for five billion, 25 billion and 50 billion. Zimbabwe leads the world in billionaires.
Where's the big bad policemen of the world when you need them? Oh yeah, Zimbabwe has no oil interests Do not pass go, Do not collect $200.
Move Zimbabwe to Indian Ocean near Iran, somehow .. and policeman will be more than happy to liberate them and rebuilt the country.
I was just looking to convert 10 euros to Zimbabwe dollars.. it would make me a millionaire there. Sadly none of the converters allow it. Anyway, on topic.. I think it's sad to see a country going through so many problems, I have no idea what caused it but I hope they find a way to deal with things because this isn't fair to those who live there.
It would be nice to own a 100 billion dollar Zimbabwean note as a bit of history Here's a pic of a one billion German Mark from 1923:
I don't think it would be easy to find Zimbabwe dollars with the money exchangers, no exchangers will be willing to bear the losses of just holding on to the Zimbabwe dollars when their inflation is so high.
Type in Movement for Democratic Change ( the main opposition force in Zimbabwe) into Google and you get some interesting results: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mo...s=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a The first option - w ww.mdc.co.zw - reads 'This site may harm your computer.' I clicked on the second option - w ww.mdczimbabwe.org - and when I clicked on the contribute option it displays the following warning:
wow, for real? Wonder where I can buy some zimbabwean money to be a billionaire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwean_dollar 9,030,000% inflation estimated in 2008..
I did not know that. Absolutly amazing fact. Zimbabwe has some beautiful terrain. It looks like a great place to visit. Mile-wide Victoria Falls is a breathtaking backdrop for two ultralights in flight. The Zambezi River cataract towers twice as high as Niagara Falls.
omg I think I see a political zealot with a machette in one of those pics. Look closely in the river, he has a crazed look in his eye.
