One Judge? I would assume the Supreme Court of India has more than a single judge listening to cases. I assume it was just a single judge who issued the ruling.

Anyway, it sounds like some poorly written laws that allow a peculiar result. Most government bodies allow some immunity for acts taken while acting in your government capacity - it is an odd reading to read that as immunity for accepting a bribe. Someone needs to change the law.

That was really some microscopic analysis and interpretation of the law :) . Hope that they cover the loophole fast. Hats off to the Judge for being able to spot a pin in the hay stack.......

India had it coming. Trust me. Corruption is the single biggest monster that people in India fight with every day. My dad died a couple of years back and when I tried to get a death certificate, I realized how horrible it is to actually get something done in a government office in India. They demanded bribe. Every single person. Right from the bottom to the top. Right from the peon to the officer.

And you know what the funniest thing is? These guys don't actually realize that it's a CRIME. They have got used to it so much that they no longer feel awkward, bad, or ashamed.

It's an unwritten rule in India. Wanna get something done? Use vitamin M. (money) Liberally. It can get you anywhere.

Corruption is the bane of society and if not controlled can destroy a nation, look at the continent of Africa, a resource rich continent whose countries were mostly destroyed by corrupted leaders.

Luckily for India, they do have strong legal institutions and great judges (most), with enough political will, I guess they can tackle this serious problem.

That is sad, it is a humanitarian catastrophe in Africa where you see entire generations suffering because of malnutrition. India should be far luckily, their growth is stunning and hopefully that trickles down to the poorest and most vulnerable section of their population.....

Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it's happening for India. As the article states corruption is rampant and not enough is being done to combat the problem. Until the people, judges, police and the elected leaders decide to do something about it it won't go away. It will also leave a black mark on India's global reputation. Many people in western society don't want to do business with India because of this stain on its reputation.

Thats one of the evils we need to fight..but what i think is some how we are also responsible for this..we prefer giving 100rs to a traffic policemen for not handing us chalaan rather than following the traffic rules.
