After all this talk about losing SERPS and PR because of penalization, I thought is would be prudent to start a thread about recovering or starting from scratch. In my situation I have had a drop from ~100 Google hits per day to nothing. Since this isn't a huge hit like some others, I plan to do the following: -Change domain name. -Start with a new host. -Cut and paste original material excluding any links or duplicate posts. -Redirect old domain name to new domain (if possible without penalization) -Start rebuilding valid links -Forget about lost PR and original site status. So, these are my thoughts, I would appreciate any other points of view or tips. Cheers, prophet
I dont know much about this, but wouldnt a 301 redirect just hurt the new site also? It just says that the site has moved to a new address...
yea wouldnt you just be best to start again any reference to the old put this is danger of being penalised again imo
what did you do and what sort of penalty do you think you have? why not correct it and request resubmission?
Firstly, I have no idea (neither do half the people on this board with penalization problems). Secondly, from what I have read, the time I spend waiting for resubmission by big brother could be from two weeks to never. As I mentioned before, I have a relatively young site (8 months) so I would rather start again without a yellow card, following the guidelines. Cheers, prophet
My statistics show that I have received no hits from Google at all during the last few weeks, my traffic is only coming from Yahoo, Live etc. My main keyword has gone from a Google position of 4 to 215, other keywords are sitting in positions 170 to 220. I can, therefore, assume a penalization has taken place. Cheers, prophet
see, i take objection to this word "penalization" being used all the time on here, most people here use it incorrectly. they only penalise sites that have done something wrong. what youve probably experienced is a SERP drop due to any number of possible causes, including their endless algo tweaks, link matrix adjustments (upline from you) and hundreds more possibilities most of which we can only guess at. if they havent removed you from the index completely, youre not penalised. you may be being "filtered" due to something you've done, or it may just be that after their latest tweak your site has sunk to it's new natural level in this search. if thats the case scrapping it and starting again isnt the answer.
I think instead of starting with a new domain/site you should work on getting back on google. Google only penalises you if you have done something wrong. Just revert the few things you have done recently and wait for a few weeks before you take this restarting decision.
your site may just be going through what alot of sites go through, and you are better off just continuing and weathering out the storm, as if you start all over again you will probably just go through the same ups and downs again google seems to be funny that way in that they try to figure out where they want your site to perform and it goes up and down a until it starts to level off I have seen wild swings for over a year with a site before it kind of settled down and gets a constant dribble of google traffic now, not as high as the highest it was but not as low as the lowest either changing everything around usually messes things up more than it helps
If you're still listed on Google for any keyword and you have your site on Google index, I dont think your site is penalized. It is normal for SERPs to change, so to keep up with them update your site often. And promote it. And use Google Webmaster Tools, if you are penalized make a reinclusion request from Webmaster Tools
it could be just some part of the google dance. one of my site got disappear from SERPs for a month. (was rank no.1on my keywords with 2+mils result.) and these days it came back again. so give it more time and you still could make a new site as well but not redirect from the old site yet.
Wait, if you get penalized by google for having duplicate content, removing the duplicate content won't help?
