When There Was Peace in Israel - "The Good Ol' Days"

The Ottoman occupation of Jerusalem in the 16th century until the early 20th was often marked by peaceful coexistence.

Twice a year, Jews, Muslims, and Christians celebrated together at the shrine of Simon the Just, a popular biblical figure.

For a single coin, you could buy a ride to the tombs on a camel or donkey. Their owners would lead the animals from café to café soliciting business, the colored rocks worn around the beasts' necks to protect them from the evil eye clicking rhythmically as they made their way down the street.

During the monthlong Muslim holiday of Ramadan, nighttime shows featured entertainers who would make shadow puppets against the walls of the café, often using the puppets' dialogue to poke fun at local officials or make veiled political commentary on the latest events.

During the Jewish holiday of Purim, children from all over the city dressed up in colorful costumes to celebrate and exchange sweets. The Arabs even had a name for Purim in their own language, which translated as 'the sugar holiday.'

What a shame a band of Zionist Jews had to come around claiming God gave them Israel and snaked it for themselves. Didn't their moms teach them about sharing?

Who brought down the Ottoman Empire, and then partitioned the land?

When I read posts like this I wonder didn't their moms teach them about lying?

See, two can play this game.

Where's the lie? Israel was a Jewish state last time I checked.
Two can indeed play at this, but they should have facts to back them up if they don't want to look silly.

Yet Zionism has the cover of religion but in reality has little to do with the Jewish religion.

If I was arab I might be mad.

Btw the world is for everyone to enjoy, especially the holy land. The fact that one certain group of people (Zionists) tries to claim this place as their own irritates me just a little.

If the world is for everyone to enjoy, does that apply to every country? Should Jews be allowed to pray and live openly in Saudi Arabia as Muslims do in Israel?

    Sure, why not.

Yes, however non-Muslims cannot practice openly... Saudi Arabia is a messed up place.

Does that State discrimination against Jews and Christians bother you? You want to rant about Israel constantly but you seem to be giving a pass to Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries that are far more oppressive. Why is that? Why are you not upset at all the discrimination in virtually every Muslim country - why is all your vitriol directed at the US and Israel?

I think the answer is pretty clear.

If Israel didn't choke Gaza like a newborn baby I wouldn't mind them as much.

And if Israel didn't have the US by their balls I would like them more.

Which reminds me, if Israel didn't kill US troops to further the political goals of the Zionist state, I would like them like a friend.

    However...

    Everyone despises treachery.

MY TAX DOLLARS are paying for the bulldozers and bullets of these goons. And I'm totally sick of it.

In my previous life before my white incarnation I was dark brown. And dusty too.

Nothing wrong with being brown and dusty. Many in my family are both.

Back to the point, I am guessing you are a Muslim. It would explain your hatred of Israel and of your own country.

I m curious to know, how being a Muslim explain the hatred of Israel? are you trying to say that Muslims hate Israel because Islam tells them to hate Jews? and its not because this entity is criminal and terrorist entity who stole others people lands and properties by force? and expelled them out of their own historical land?

    NO

I am Catholic but not baptised.

I don't hate America. I hate the way it's being run. I hate it's foreign policy. I hate it's nation building. I hate the high taxes. I hate the corruption.

Well that's enough hate for one post. ;)

    Because he hates Muslims?

    Well almost enough hate :p

    I do not hate Muslims.

I am keen enough to observe that most of the people who hold hatred specifically for the US and Israel tend to be Muslims. I have no problem with Muslims even if they do hate the US and Israel - that is their right as free thinking people.

I did not mean offense, it was a simple question and it looks like my assumption was wrong. It was just curiosity. I was not implying that your being Muslim was somehow bad, it just would have explained your (what looks to me like) hatred of the US and Israel. No doubt people other than Muslims can find fault with both the US and Israel.

Muslims have hated jews for a long time before zionism. During the second world war the nazi army has an islamic SS division lead by the grand mufti, This was a long before zionism. Zionism is just the current excuse for hating the jews, it isn't the reason.

without discussing the example itself (you can refer to the threads were we talked about el-Mufti) you say Muslims have hated Jews for a long time before Zionism, and you bring an example from long after Zionism.

Israel was only established in 1948. The SS had an islamic panza division lead by the mufti from about 1937. which fully and entirely refutes your claim that the islamic hatred for the jews is a result of them stealing land and forcing people out.

    Look at this time line
book telling muslims to hate jews -> hatred for jews -> islamic nazi SS division -> formation of Israel

it's impossible for a cause to come after the effect. You can't say the reason for centuries of hatred is something which happened just over half a century ago.

The speed at which the grand mufti signed up for the nazis kinda blew the islamic worlds cover. Its very hard for a religion to claim they don't have inherent hatred for jews when they had a nazi SS division all to themselves.

There was a time when I was active on such threads. But I have realized it is just useless, a waste of time. Some people have a sense of superiority, like israelis are superior to Palestinians coz they are white, or that US can do anything to any country, but no one should do anything to us, or you become a terrorist...

People forget a simple thumb rule of morality, "Do unto others as you would have them do to you"...

Israel is immoral. They have destroyed the lives of millions of Palestinians, who now live in refugee camps in pathetic conditions. If the same thing happened to the israelis, people on this forum praising israel would piss their pants. It seems to me same rules don't apply everywhere... And that, is racism.

Palestinians are equal to Israelis in every respect. Those who demonize the entire people and label them terrrists are themselves inhuman and without morals.

obviously you know almost nothing about the history of the conflict, below you will find just a little info:

Israel was established in 1948, this is true, but you were talking about Zionism, not about Israel,

Zionism and the project of stealing Palestine, came much longer before 1948, and the illegal immigration to Palestine, started much longer before 1948,

in a letter to The American Magazine dated on November, 1947, King ABdullah the first wrote describing the situation there and how Arabs sees the Jews:

the Zionist project was found much longer before 1948 as I mentioned earlier:

another Zionist "Israel Zangwill" said, and this time the date is 1905:

and Jews themselves admits they did not see hatred from Arabs:

he also describes how he feels towards Arabs, despite he never felt hatred from them:

and those illegal Zionists immigrants, were foreigners in Arabs land, but they treated Arabs badly, as they themselves admitted too:

Turkey, which is Ottoman empire, or Muslims, in case you did not know.
