-50 penalty. Reasons ?

    Hi all.

A month ago my site got -50 penalty. As far as I know, Google uses this penalty to penalize sites buying or selling links. But the site does not sell or buy links. Are there any other reasons why Google could apply -50 penalty to my site ?

    Thanks. Sorry for my English.

Just because you don't buy or sell links doesn't mean that Google doesn't think you do.

Perhaps you have a section on your site that looks like it might be paid links?

Can you clarify where to find out our penalty points?

No, there is no pages with external links at all.
Does Google apply this filter only for buying/selling links or there can be other reasons ?

You can get penalties for a variety of reasons, but how sure are you that you actually have a penalty?

Loss of positions in the SERPS doesn't automatically mean you have been handed a penalty by Google.

The penalty which is applied for buying and selling links is easily identifiable because that web site will not rank for it's own name and the PR will drop significantly outside of a normal PR update.

I think you will find it to be your last post too.

a month ago there used to be 4000 unique visitors from google daily, but now I get only 50-60 a day. My site ranked top5 for a long time, but within a single day it dropped to 6th page by all keywords. I'm sure it is a penalty, I'm almost sure it is -50, but I'm not sure about the reasons because there is no external links on my site at all. When trying to search by site's name it appeares on 1st page, but only on 4th place. PageRank didn't change.

There may be other issues such as linking to banned/bad Sites or there could be hidden links.

Well ranking in 4th place for your own sitename is never a good thing, unless you have an extremely competitive name.

Without knowing the URL or the keywords that you were ranking for there is only so much advice you are going to be able to get from the forum.

Also you should be aware that there are things going on at Google at the moment, lots of people have reported wild SERPS with rankings changing on a daily basis, so you might just be caught up in what appears to be an impending update by Google.

There may be other issues for your site.Buying or selling the links is not only the reason..

It would be nice if google actually gave you the reason so you could do something about it! Just a small warning message when you log on to the webmasters tool would do.

Its like putting someone one in prison with no court case and no reason why, how the hell are we suppose to learn from our mistakes?

Actually I think it is more or like the -60 penalty seems to be much more popular

Well there could be tons of reasons why the ranking can drop 50 spots. You may not be engaged in selling links but there could be other reasons like keyword stuffing which could also be another reason for google to penalize your site.
