Google May Just Kill Itself Off With it's Social Media BS

Google is testing new features that will make it like Digg. No one besides an internet marketer or a Digg geek will actually waste their time voting for websites. People just want to find information. This will turn into a spam-fest and make their results very stupid. As it is, their results tend to be better than Yahoo! and MSN. Well, now they're doing something unnecessary that will hurt them and help their competitors.

Why are you so against that idea? I think it's actually pretty neat!

No, they do not. Being more popular does not necessary mean better.

I think it's gonna make the results worse, because they will be controlled by the social media elites, not by relevance.

Its going to suck because people who can manipulate it will rank high and those who cant wont be able to rank.

Guess we should all start to learn how to cheat huh..:D

Who said popularity was the reason? Do you even know how their search works?

Google does seem to be expanding too much. Too much can sometimes be too much. +X

I remember reading about this a while back (can't remember where) but about the voting up and down, This effects results you see when logged in to your account.
So it is sort of like a "personal filter" that does not affect the search results of others.. and will not work if you are not logged in to your account.

As for the comments, well I only hope that there is some sort of way to have unfair comments left by competitors removed.

    Cheers
    James

Yeap true, Google started out well as a search engine and profited extremely well. To expand to related areas is good but has its dangers of losing their focus and concentrating too much on areas which are not their core competencies. It is too early to tell though.....
