Page Rank effect on Traffic?

    If a PR5 website currently generates 5K pageviews/day distributed over 500 pages, how many daily pageviews will the same website generate when it's Page Rank increases to 6?

    In other words, is it known approximately what % increase in google-driven traffic is attributable to an increase in a Page Rank place?

    I don't believe that PR and traffic are directly related.
    I might be wrong though

    PR and traffic are only indirectly related at best. Statistically you can say that a PR 6 site could potentially get more traffic than a PR 5 site but it might make no difference at all. For example, I have sites with pages that occupy 2 of the top 5 positions on Google for some competitive terms. No matter how much I increase PageRank, I don't think I'll get significantly any more visitors.

    I depends upon whether you get most of your trafic from search engines or from other link sources. If you get traffic mostly from search engines, improvement in PR of inner pages will increase traffic.

    Indeed. By what % (or range of percentages) will it likely increase traffic?

    Does anyone know of any empirical studies that have been done to evaluate the relationship between pagerank and google-driven traffic?

    No, I don't know of any such studies. They may be out there, but I'm not aware of them.

    However, Matt Cutts of Google recently made an interesting comment in USA Today — "Get other sites to "link" back to you. This is one of the most important of the 100 factors Google considers when ranking sites." This little insight reveals a few key things:

    • Backlinks are vitally important (that part we already know).
    • Backlinks are among the most important of the ranking factors.
    • Of great interest, at least to me, is that Matt speaks of "the 100 factors" that Google considers in their rankings determinations.

    (Me talking now, not Matt) — Matt declares that backlinks are very important in rankings, and we know that rankings affect search engine-derived traffic. Pagerank is a direct result of backlinks. So either directly or at the very least indirectly, Pagerank is somewhat related to SERPs rankings. Maybe as a cause(?), at least as an indicator of the health of our backlinks, which Matt clearly says are a cause of good SERPs. Just some thoughts to ponder.

    Here's the link to Matt's article: http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/080623-101341

    If page rank increase means the rank of website increase with the help of back links. So definitely traffic will increase. But if the traffic source is just search engines then you will find more visitors through search engines. If you are getting traffic from other source like social bookmarking or forums then it is all your efforts.

    I totally agree with u.
    Pr and traffic are always different.
    PR means how much your is more authentic in the eyes of search engine like Google.
    Traffic means you get visitors from various source.

    As far as I know, page rank and traffic are not related. So, you cannot guess the difference in traffic with respect to the difference in PR.

    For more traffic, you need more relevant BLs instead of more PageRank.

    NO!
    I think page rank not effect your traffic direct. for more traffic you need more back links and for off page activities....

    PR is merely the importance Google places on the site for that particular niche. Whether or not you'll witness changes in traffic depends on the number of people searching for that niche on the search engines

    I've known that they are not related to each other as well. But I have some confusion, what's the real benefit of Google PR?

    I'd have to agree with this 99.9%, as I usually always do with Jim. I don't know if I'd go as far to say as Pagerank can determine the health of backlinks since a decent\mild high Pagerank "could in theory" be achieved by getting links from millions of low level useless sites. Again, it's sound to believe Pagerank plays a role in search results, since backlinks are important it's easy to figure this out.

    I'd say both Page Rank and traffic are actually consequences of the link building process.

    Think simple and you'll always find answers

    backlinks = higher traffic

    backlinks = higher PR

    It seems to be a sort of corelation between every single aspect of link building and all the other things. The only difference in the story above comes when traffic can be increased without taking PR into account (no follow attribute).
