The United States government uses Affirmative action to keep white males out of jobs base solely on the color of their skin. Job qualifications does not matter.

I'm pretty sure being a minority in the USA gets discriminated against more than a white american, but nobody can say for sure since we only can judge from the color of our own skin.

We only get one side of the story.

Question for you, have you ever been affected by affirmative action?

I have to say that I have been affected by Affirmative Action quite often actually.

I am a white female that lives in NM where the majority of the population is Mexican/Spanish.

I have been turned down for a few jobs where they will tell me they have to hire a female Mexican/Spanish so they can meet their quotas of minority staffing with the Department of Labor.

Wow. I didn't even think about Affirmative Action affecting white females. It never crossed my mind.

I am gonna say either gays or stupid people. Stupid people are always getting their faces on TV and being made fun of, where as gays are still openly talked negatively about in the media and are refused certain rights.

Oh, that's a tricky one, good food for thought. On the one hand I think I see where you are going with this, being made to say the pledge and swear on a bible in court comes to mind, but I wonder if it's really discrimination if it doesn't hurt you in some way? I mean if you don't believe what does it cost you to play along?

ROFL, I just got a grey rep for my post above:

I love people who talk out there ass when they have no idea what they are talking about. I am a highly educated woman. So being "better" wasn't the issue, my RACE was the issue. It happened to me twice when I applied for really crappy call center jobs (computer tech support over the phone) during college. I was straight out told I was the better applicant but they couldn't hire me because they had to have a certain number of minority people on staff at all times. What's so difficult to understand about that?

if christians were forced to use money that said god doesn't exist and they were forced to denounce their god and say they don't believe in the existence of god to get access to justice they'd probably feel pretty discriminated against too. But discrimination goes far beyond that. People are being marginalised, practicly excluded from communities by other members simply because they don't believe what they believe. There are some states that don't allow "those who deny the existence of god" to hold public offices. link. I mean, what would you feel about a law forbiding blacks to hold public office for example? Or women? Or short people.

Being forced to deny your beliefs is not exactly the same as playing along with the beliefs of others, but I do see your point. As far as the Texas state constitution, on the one hand I am not suprised and on the other I would say since it is in direct violation of the federal constitution it would be worth less than toilet paper. The thing about the money, it's not descrimination if you can spend it either way, and in most courts they will let you take an alternative oath, but it might be unwise to do so.

I actively discriminate against stupid people. I don't like to hire them, I don't like to be around them, and I certainly don't want stupid people near my child.

I also discriminate against racists and religious zealots of all stripes by refusing to spend any time with those types of people.

I also wanted to join the Fire Dept. when I was younger and was told many times that female hispanics would be chosen first because they need a certain number of females and hispanics. They purposely made the physical test SO easy for females to pass that even Paris Hilton would have passed it. That's how bad they needed them.

It just doesn't make sense to me. We want to stop racial discrimination for job applicants in the State of NM. So, we are going to enforce discrimination to make sure no discrimination is taking place.....

Tho you don't know if that's the real reason you weren't hired, they almost never disclose the real reason if it is actually that, to avoid being sued. Likewise, those who have not been hired due to race religion etc stuff, are not told it is because they are X or Y, but a general reason is put forward or just a "leave your numbah, we'll call you"
