Proxies...again

    Ok,

    1)
I have my glype proxy installed, looks good. But what is the major difference between php-proxy, cgi proxy and glype?

    2)
To the glype users...what specific things have you setup in your "setup"?
    Do you log IPs?

    3)
Last one, im shopping around for a proxy host (iwhic sounds like a good one...any other suggestions?) but i dont really understand one thing - why the disk space is so low. I remember reading something about "crontabs" and "temp files" that automatically delete themselves to prevent server crashes...is this correct or am i way off?

    Thanks in adavance folks!

Speed – when compared, the CGI Proxy is faster than the PHP Proxy

Security - the PHP Proxy cannot be configured to accept the SSL support and hence, cannot offer full security for sensitive content; the CGI on the other hand, supports fully the SSL. So in this case CGI would be better. :)

Space – the PHP Proxy need very few server resources and it is easier to upload – though, it will require a much larger bandwidth. The CGI Proxy on the other hand is exactly the opposite – it uses a lot of server’s resources but requires a minuscule amount of bandwidth. Therefore, it depends on you and your requirements which one you will choose in the end.

never liked " Glype " so I will not get into it ;)

For proxy hosts, there are some good ones, But a VPS or a dedicated would be your best option as many shared hosts dont like them, You need to remember you would be sharing the " ip " If you purchased a dedicated IP I guess you would be fine.

Ha, thanks for answering both questions dude...I take it your a bit of a proxy expert! Guess im in the right place :D

I have my ssl certificates, so I guess it’s either cgi or glype....currently on a shared host...so need to get a vps or dedicated sorted intime for the weekend! Need to start testing soon!

So...what don’t you like about glype? You have me intrigued!
Are all the major proxies out there cgi? I was wanting to get everything spot on before i start whoring sorry advertising my proxy :p

    Cheers again

Thanks, checked out psdproxies...nice site! Crisp, clean and (after a quick scan) seems like it has some great content! Chers mate!

No, i signed up for godaddys (terrible name and logo)...no tried it yet...once i get it all going i will pm you link if you want

    --------

Which host is the one of "choice"...there are just soooooooooo many in DP...that its a daunting experience.

Had my eye on "hawk host"...any other contenders? I noticed uptime and speed are issues!

Glype is by far the best in my opinion. The only competitor I would say is CGIProxy, but I have trouble editing it because I'm more familiar with PHP.

I'd recommend Tech Entrance for hosting.

Nice one, guess x L14M x is in the minority when it comes to proxy choice...but i would still like to know why you prefer others to glype (like i said in another post, im new to this...not being cheeky just one of these annoying ppl that asks "why" "how" "where" :-/

Thanks llamafier, i checked out tech entrance, cheaper than what i was looking at...but it doesnt give you the amount of server that will be issued to you. Like at hawk host. Also, its it a rapid connection (Sorry for all the stupid questions)

I take it you run tech entrance? Well i also have a file host script thats doing pretty well...but currently on a shared host. They have asked me to source a new host for it (also for my proxies) so would be it be a good idea to put them both on a dedicated server rather than have 1) proxy host and another for my file host?

Any advice on this would be great!

It really depends on how much traffic you have. A dedicated server would always be best but you probably don't really need it. If I were you I'd get a plan at Tech Entrance for the file host and proxies(If there is enough storage space for files, not sure what they give since it isn't really an issue for proxies), and then get a dedicated when you need it. You should be fine having both things on one host.

you dont need much space on your host cause a proxy script wont save the surfed webs on the server
i never liked glyp , so dont know much about it
im using Zelune script at the moment cause its not that much BDW hungry
    about the host !
you better buy a vps if you are going to build a proxy network
or iwice and tech4server both are good

Like I said the PHP Proxy cannot be configured to accept the SSL support and hence, cannot offer full security for sensitive content; the CGI on the other hand, supports fully the SSL. So in this case CGI would be better.

Thats why I tend to use CGI proxies more than any others, They all do the same thing but I look at security as the main aspect. With that in mind the choice is yours.

I will be able to provide you with help / support ( free ) of course, if you choose CGI / PHP proxie soloution.

    - regards
    Liam

Suppose it depends on how much bandwidth / storage you have.
