Hello, Iw as wondering if there was a particular number of sitemap items you should have on one sitemap - I thought the more the better and if you can get all links on there, then that is best or is that wrong? Many thanks, Misch
From what I understand, google will not accept a sitemap with more then 50,000 addresses. Or is it that google will only accept 50,000 addresses in a site map? Either way, there is a 50,000 address limit on a sitemap submitted to google. ==================EDIT================ Here it is, this should answer your questions. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/protocol.html
Yes, that's the case for an XML sitemap... But if you're doing an on-site (HTML) sitemap, you probably want to limit to 100 links or less. If it's more, it should be broken up into different categories, utilizing a few separate sitemaps.
Just to list a few: 1. Big Forums 2. Lyrics websites 3. Old News Websites 4. Popular Social Bookmarking websites
It does not matter wether you have thousands of page or less. It's better if you can include all your pages on your sitemap.
Yes sorry, I meant xml, and have since found it is best to have as many as possible...however HTMl sitemaps should have no more than 100, but around 40 is optimal...thanks for your help everyone!
My site has over 110,000 pages listed with google. My site map is also set to submit 45,000 urls every 24 hours. Every day there is an increase of about 1,200 or 1,300 URLS. This equals out to the new post and threads on my site every 24 hours. Just get the site map up and get it submitted, even it is limited limited to 50,000 URLs it will still help google index your page.
