I have submitted my websites in ODP / DMOZ but its already 3-4 months but it is still not listed there. what may be the possible reason Please Guide me.
There are about a few billion websites out there; DMOZ lists 5 million..... think about it. As you have submitted your site, and its been 3-4 months, that means that either your site has been rejected or an editor has not yet reviewed it. 3-4 months is not long in DMOZ time; there is nothing more you can do.
I would say just fire and forget, there is nothing you can do about it, and there is nothing you should do about it.
It will take a while(there are sites that are still pending after 4 years). Just wait. It's the only thing you can do at this moment.
A few quick clarifications: 103,439,354 active domains as of yesterday according to Domain Tools. Not sure if less than 103.5 million translates to a few billion when you include subdomain sites or not... so he could be a bit high (as might be the figure he posted). True if a rounding error exceeding a quarter of a million sites is considered acceptable. Starting to wonder about the math curriculum at a certain Aussie University. Naah. The submissions queue was cleared by a database failure less than two years ago, so there's nothing "pending" that is 4 years old. Bottom line tho, 3-4 months isn't cause for alarm, just the nature of the beast. Possibly still awaiting review, possibly already dismissed, but either way the answer is to move on down the line getting indexed elsewhere or promoting the site by other means. Nothing left to do at this point, resubmitting wouldn't be advantageous. Good luck.
The 103 million (plus my rounding error) is only for six top level domains: com, net, org, info, biz, us. Are there likely to be 30 times as many websites if we include all the TLDs in the world (x30 so the estimated "few" billion") can be considered an acceptable estimate? I've no idea....But it seems possible.
I think I can safely say that's a number I don't know for sure and have seen wildly differing estimates on. Part of the problem is likely due to questions like whether you count "MySpace.com" as a website or a host of 30 zillion individual websites (note the scholarly number offered there). Once you get into numbers that large it starts to lose meaning and reminds me of a traditional George Bush joke. Best I can say is you are welcome to consider it as an acceptable estimate and I'll amend my number to "a whole bunch". Probably the bottom paragraph of my post is the only one the OP cares about anyway.
all you can do is wait as long as you submitted it to the right section and gave a good description, you shouldn't have anything to worry about
Don't get obsessed with DMOZ is just a link and search engines take it a link nothing more, the advantage is that some other directories syndicate content from DMOZ.
bro, I would contact the editor for that directory, most of them reply really quick and will provide feedback. You can also post in their forum and get an update from of their editors.
There's nobody that's going to provide some miracle insight that you cannot find through the search feature. You'll find the general answer is: Submit your site, and forget about it.
Both intentionally incorrect. What would possess you to come into an SEO forum to intentionally mislead people who ask questions? Red rep given, and i hope everyone present follows suit.
I'd say that the sub-domains would and should count when discussing DMOZ. Look at the number of Geocities pages are listed which are considered individual sites by many... Though, I am not sure if even that would put it up into the billions. *shrug* Both are incorrect? I know the second one is, as the DMOZ forum has not given status checks in ages, though, erm, I'd assume that the first point made would be from personal experience. There have been a few editors that have popped in to say that they do reply to emails from submitters, and while most say that they do not, maybe the poster you are replying too is one of the lucky ones and actually gets treated decently by the ODP Then again, maybe the person got confused about which forum was the ODP forum... they could have been talking about this one: DMOZ Site Submission Status Checks. Which is a place one can get status checks by editors, and is seeming just as official as the other forum, as neither is fully endorsed by DMOZ and both have many editors as members.
You might like to check how many submission statuses have been given there in the last month and how many current editors are giving them. Once you've done that, you'll probably feel the urge to come back here and edit your post - but I expect you'll overcome it .
My guess would actually be a LOT more then the number of status checks on the other RZ forum Though, I guess you are correct. Maybe a thread needs to be started as to just why all the editors that post on that forum that seemed to be helpful now are all listed as EX editors Maybe there is a connection with editors actually being nice and the EX before their title.
