It depends... Nowadays there are just *too* many directories around and some of them don't even have any ranking yet. Similar like websites, not all pages on the sub-directories were indexed if let's say SEO is not done properly so that's why your submitted url won't appear as backlink.

Yes, Google will not consider backlinks from the directories which contains a lot of links...

Submit your website to directories which has very few links...;)

Google is never going to consider link from a directory which has a lot of links. Google is that much dumb as we think it is.

A year ago I added to a lot of directories, most of which had a great deal of links. I knew then that the value of directories back links would be iffy. Sure enough the vast majority don't show up and while I am not certain I would say that directory submission has to be done with a jaundiced eye, carefully and not without doing all the other link building options that offer greater back linking potential.

    LMAO at the jaundice eye.

Well for one, directories still are powerful enough to show up as backlinks to you in the webmaster tools. it's just the public Google doesn't show them out much too often.

Go to Yahoo and page 6-10 of your inlinks or incoming links; if you've done directory submissions from the past will all be directory entries:D

    i disagree.

Google consider every directory link as backlink but they reduce their value in their algo for directory.

This is true, even some Yahoo sub catergories are not indexed.

I recently went on a directory frenzy. After a couple of months only around 20% are showing in webmaster tools.

I was pretty careful submitting my sites to indexed directories with a nice pr , but then not all of them count! no idea how google decides which link to accept and which to deny ..
