I wonder if anybody is aware of ANY directory that actually sends traffic - we are talking general directories, not niche. Directories owners are constantly saying that their general directory will increase your site's traffic. I hope this thread will forever close the question of a miracle-general-directory-that-sends-traffic
You need to find a directory that ranks high in the SERPs. Often visitors will land on your detail/business page within the directory and clickthrough to your site from there. I got good traffic from authoritydirectory.com when I had several listings there.
some directory takes times to approve the link so if you want instant traffic you should opt for social bookmarking sites like digg, blinklist, propeller etc.
This one sends traffic....... addurl-links.com Ive noticed that some listings do really well, depending on "who" is searching and for "what".. http://www.addurl-links.com/computers/games/world-of-warcraft-signature-816.html This directory is General and FREE and does rather well in the serps in all engines which would explain why its able to send traffic to some submitters thx malcolm
No doubt. Most general directories are best at providing traffic to other directories - but how much of that is directory owners checking out the competition and how much gets converted to something you can take to the bank?
Just browsing BizFive.com found these listings http://www.bizfive.com/dir/entertainment/funny-videos--funpike/details/ over 800 hits. http://www.bizfive.com/dir/recreation-and-sports/automotive/motor-addicts-car-forum/details/ over 700 hits. http://www.bizfive.com/dir/tour-and-travels/travel-state-gov/details/ over 500 hits. I saw # of other with over 100/200 hits. I have personally recieved traffic from this site.
You can find them but it takes work. Start with a list of high traffic directories then go to the page where you will be listed. Then search google for some likely search terms that you find on that page. If the directory ranks in googles top 10 you'll probably get hits from them. There are some gems among the sand.
It just really depends on what the search engines decide to pick up. As an example I have a particular listing in one of my directories that has over 2800 hits to it. (for minstrel: i implemented code to discount roughly 60 search engines on the hits)
I'd be surprised if any G directory sends over 50 visitors to it's submitters for 12 months. The only one that was decent was MSN sbd, that sent me so much traffic and it was a good price too. Nowadays directories just aren't in the users best interests, they just want your money.
DMOZ sends a little of traffic also yahoo directory does. Business dot com. But generally directories don't bring traffic. Try social media sites, they're great bringing traffic.
Depends on which subtopic your site is listed in. A site in one of the more obscure (niche) subtopics won't bring the same amount of traffic as a site listed in a popular subtopic. We have more then 1.000.000 visitors and over 4.000.000 search queries a month, so I guess someone will get some traffic ;-) Hugo
Thanks for the offer, but JoeAnt is inappropriate for my needs @ NicoMaster - social media sites may bring good traffic, but again it's the wrong type, and they aren't buyers, they are mostly made up of freebie hunters directory submitters PR chasers QBC Not for me
This is true, everything has gone paid for inclusion now. Checking each directory is the best bet, as personal recommendations can be biased....... If they exist, seek out targeted directories and other related websites.
1. Too General in nature (Set up to be everything and serve everyone) 2. Doesn't specialise in my field - just take my word for it 3. My audience would never use it, and thus never find me Yup, it's very nice looking - just never do the job for me.
