i agree with you dude.. people think they'v plucked an awesome cheap deal and regret it once they get along.. in the design field, ive seen an indian who doesnt even know what a vector format is ! and he calls himself a designer.. such things really hurt the market. Its pure slavery.
Well there are some reasons of low rates. One of them are most of new service provider come with low rates to get some orders to start business which down the rates. Other things $1 is very high in other country in terms of curruncy so they can reduce the price. More important thing which I seen that some people hire few team members for some fix amount so they can able to earn profit from it and those hire people think they are earning too much. Just imagine someone doesn't earn $10 per month and started $150/Month with writing then he would enjoy it but he never knew that payer earn more than that.
Working for such pathetic payout's is really annoying and can be called as Online-slavery .........These guys are destroying work culture for others.
Generally, the quality of any product is determined by its price and most of the time quality and price are positively correlated. When you settle for a lower price, naturally you can expect only a poor quality.
It is a Willing Buyer Willing Seller market, I won't say that it is online slavery. Though I would say that a Lemons problem exist here.
In India price of petrol (gasoline) is $4.9 per gallon. How much does it cost in the US? A few models are cheaper as they come with hardly any features. Many cars don't have even the basic features like air-bags and passenger-side mirrors. Cheapest car comes for about $7500. If the same features are added, cost of cars in India and US is more or less the same.
There are a couple of ways to look at this. One, the world is practically a unified marketplace, and we have people in poorer nations who are able to sell their services for a mere pittance when compared to other locales. Until we are all on economically equal ground this will remain true. Two, some people either don't know what their work is worth, or don't care what their work is worth and are just trying to get themselves out there. Eventually they're likely to start charging more, but for now a few dollars is all they want or think thay can get.
I highly doubt quality of service provided. If the work is provided cheap. I think there should be some standard rates to be set.

Hm.......$100 can pay the rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in a decent locality (In the Capital where I live), In india we have cars as cheap as 2K$ for 10K we can get a pretty good car. Actually the per capita income in India is $100 year! In India 0.4 billion people live for less than $30/month We get a lays pack here for 20 cents a hotdog for 10 cents and a gum for 2 cents. This is whats called OUTSOURCING
What car comes for $2000? Even the Maruti Omni Van costs $6000 (on-road price). and the per-capita income is $1000 and not $100.
The tata NANO 2be launched in a couple of months is expected to be around that price. And sorry mymistake its $100/month not/year

Dude do you take in account that dollar in USA/CA cheaper actually in rest of world cause of much higher inflation rates + it's falling kinda more than 10% for about a year ? I just can't get people who talk all the time how long dollar goes in other world...It goes almost nowhere. People save in local currencies last time. Do you read newspapers/watch TV ? If so I really don't know what media shows to you... Main reason that DP is full of part-timers, hobbists, students, pupils even, people who really "don't care". But at lest they still can charge more, why not if you can ? IT appers main strategy to charge less and that's it. Even LOT of serious professionals from India/Pakistan/Malysia/Philipino leave it cause it's not worth it and start to work in other places (I know it cause I browse DP for 4 years and member 2 years). I am from Ukraine and laught mostly on those rates (much more sense for me to take work in Russia). $100 here will buy you food for 2/3 of month for 1 person and only if you cook at home. Internet access up to $40 (mine, good broadband). Rent, well, lowest is $250 (more like $300 even) for 1 bedroom and it's sucks by many qualities. Cars ? Well, a lot more than in US/Canada. Mazda 3 for example from $25k. Same in India, don't worry
whats up with people getting on Indians ?? you guys wanna be racist if so let me know i can get this thing started. If you guys really hate Indians working for less then try 2 talk it out with them or talk with the Mod & get a fixed price for stuff. It called business skills even if they work for less they make what they need to. If you guys still have problems with Indians tell the admin to ban all Indians from this forum. I am an Indian, but I am not offended, Whatever they are saying is not wrong, Its our fault that the rates have become so low, just because a 6th grader can buy an icecream in India by writing 20 words (takes 30 sec.) he will charge less. We people from 3rd world countries are taking away their jobs both online and offline and they have the right to complain. BTW i really like the "minimum price" suggestion
