I need free images for use on a comercial site

I need images related to music that are free and can legally be used on commercial sites. I won't be selling the images, I just using them to decorate a site that I want to open to the public soon. I'm running a very strict budget.

Any good sites that anyone knows of?

Try www.sxc.hu, but make sure you read the usage restrictions.

NONE of those are free. I'm surprised you didn't list Flickr too

If I'm wrong, I apologize. But I've been all over those sites and I've never seen information about a cost. If I've missed it, I would appreciate a link showing me the information.

There is no cost because they're NOT FOR SALE. If you're using images that you've 'sourced' from Google Images or Yahoo Images, then you're probably violating copyright.

GOOGLE: Are there any copyright restrictions associated with the images?
The images identified by the Google Image Search service may be protected by copyrights. Although you can locate and access the images through our service, we cannot grant you any rights to use them for any purpose other than viewing them on the web. Accordingly, if you would like to use any images you have found through our service, we advise you to contact the site owner to obtain the requisite permissions.

YAHOO: Are there any copyright restrictions on these images?
The images displayed in Yahoo! Image Search results might be protected by copyrights. Yahoo! doesn't own or control these images, so we can't grant you the rights to use them in any way other than viewing them on the Web.
If you'd like to use any of the images you find through Yahoo! Image Search, we advise you to contact the site owner for permission.

    :)

Photobucket is a different kettle of fish. Once you upload your images, you sign away all rights to them. But there's no way to tell if a user holds the copyright to what they've uploaded - if they don't, then they're breaking the Photobucket terms, and if you use that image, you're in violation of copyright.

It's da law, don't mess wit it :p

.gov image search tax money paid for the photos and they are public property I believe but I’m not a lawyer.

But if you want good quality totally legal pics I think you need to pay for them.

Some people will let you post their pics if you give them credit.

Thanks for all of the great sites. I'll make sure to check them out.:)

Oh and yeah, Google, Yahoo, Photobucket, Flickr and the like don't provide images for use on commercial sites. That would be suicide seeing that those images are owned and copyrighted by tons of separate companies. Btw, thanks for clearing that up Kerosene.

Thanks and thats what I plan on doing eventually. But to kick start the site just a few free fair quality images will do for now.
