Profiting from YouTube?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by sholiz, Jul 15, 2008.

Trying to think of a way to profit off a video series I intend to release, just capturing moments of life ... but it'll be funny and should catch on.

Will have a discussion forum maybe, but I still want to make money off the video (and don't feel like promoting with MetaCafe)

Make a site. Put a URL of your site on your youtube videos. Hire some cheap outsource guys to keep hitting your youtube views so you stay on main page of youtube. Optimize your site for greater CTR or acquisition rates.

You tube has been banning accounts at the rate of 100/second these days. I made several accounts, uploaded just one video and boom! Banned every single account
    waste of time

Create a site around the video and monetize it.

If you try and open lots of accounts, you will be banned. They catch up to that because you have the same ip with all the accounts and the software is capturing it.

So one account on you tube and you should be fine.

So I assume that they will ban those guys that keep hitting your video as well. My suggestion is to make something that people like and dig and are willing to share. You cannot beat that because everyone will be working for you because they like it and for free.

if it does catch on and becomes trendy the advertisers will come to you.. they thrive on viral content and pay competitively for ad spots in exceptional videos..

Youtube would be good to start with and get you own website developed, and start market your own website as well. This is a good business, but and but if you have some quality VIDEOs. best of luck

If I were you, I'd make a website, then upload the video on to both your website and YouTube. Then, if your stuff is quality, people will watch it, and if you put a link in the description then you should get people going to your site.

It all depends on what you want to sell.

I have seen people put free 10min training sessions on Youtube and sell their full 1 hour training DVD because of that. So that is one way of making money with youtube,

Thats a very good sugegstion. The problem however is that once they disable the account, the videos are gone as well

There are examples I can show that YouTube must know about but havent banned. The first that springs to mind is a couple of lads who call themselves 'Smosh'
    Youtube Link Their website

As you can see, they put links in all the descriptions, and are the most subscribed-to channel on Youtube, and they havent been banned yet ;)

Well it's going to be original content, I'll probably have a Director account by the time I get into this ... but, my question is, I'll be legitimately making a video series for YouTube (not just for marketing), because I want to and think it'll be funny ... but, how can I translate the 10 million hits or whatever that's quite easy to generate with a few dozen videos, or one popular one, into type-in's of my URL and my site may just be a big "lounge" or off-topic style forum, but videos on my own site (of course, hosted by YouTube) with my own ads - but are there any better options than CPM/CPC?

Hi, to be honest I think Smosh (the link i posted above) is the perfect example. They get millions of views, and surely this translates as they have set up their own clothing brand and memorobilia shop. I would say that if you truly want to makea good revenue, you will focus on making the vids really funny, and if you can bring a smile to peoples faces they will visit your site. Talking of which, try and make the site so the videos are the centre of attention, offer downloads of the videos so people can watch in high quality, maybe even be a bit cheeky and upload lower quality videos onto youtube so people have an incentive to come on your site. Then sell ad space, and youre sorted, and maybe even start your own mini brand, selling t-shirts and mugs and stuff like that... But you really need to focus on getting views on YouTube, then you can start to focus on the money making side. Thats my opinion anyway.
    Hope that helped
    Simon

So even if you have your link only a percentage will type in to your forums, then forums get a very low CTR on average and you sound like youre in the humor niche which is generally .02-.08 a click niche. Good luck making a killing :)
