I'm sure there are a lot of webmaster in here does do website for their customer. I wonder how you all do it? I'm curious about the paying terms and after the work done terms.

    1. Would you make the website before payment, or once done only receive payment?

    2. After you have finished the website, would you teach the customer how to make the website, before getting paid?

PS : Recently I've done few jobs for some customers, and out of 10, there is 1 customer, whom requested us to teach them how to make the website and then only will pay all the remaining fees.

    Thanks
    David Cheong.

It depends on the services/products you are offering.
    Payment first in my case.

Well, as I build my portfolio I am able to ask for payments half and half. Half before I start, and the other half once I'm finished. I can do this more and more because of previous client testimonials, and iTrader ratings here at DP.

If you're a new designer then it's hard to ask for this. You'll probably have to risk paying after you finish the work. But NEVER send the final product until you've been payed.

if it's a design job then partial payment from start and the rest when it's over. If it comes to blog reviews, full payment first.

For the mutual peace of mind for both parties, I'd prefer partial payments.

Agree. But sometimes i ask for full payment up front, otherwise i won't loose my time. Good buyers pay upfront and dont create issues.

scubita : Most of my website customer, i did do the same way like you, i think it is good way to do this way.

    3. If the customer wants you do teach them how to make the website and partial payment made only while the balance will be pay once you have teach them how to make the website, would you teach them? How many among us would teach their customer(similar to threaten, "You must teach us, once we know how to do, then only make full payment." )

In my real world, i have done many website for customer but this is the 1st time that a customer request such a thing from me.

    Thanks.

I would say either full payment before everything, or half before and half after. It would really depend on the situation though and how high your reputation is.

Well I always take upfront payment from customers to ensure my safty and that's why I have no problem with cutsomers on payment. I do sometime take money after job done from long term buyer.:)
