A domain I have been checking on regularly expired on 09-jun-2008. When will this domain expire(last day of pendingdelete)?

I'm no domain God here so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that some server hosts actually hold the domain for an extra month or two for the last user so that if they want to renew the domain in there name they can before its snatched up by someone trying to steal the site (domain).

As I said, not sure thats the exact reason why, but it could be.

It's typically 30-60 days, but can be as much as 90. The registrar's sometimes will do auto-renews or auction it off or other tricks too. I'd do a whois search to find out the registrar and then read their rules (with a grain of salt).

Most .coms drop on the same day. But .co.uk domains drop 99 days after expiry. .org.uk also drop on the 99th day.

    Are you certain about this?
I just let a handful of parked domains expire...(June 23-24 expiration dates ~ Godaddy)
and they still showed in my account up until Saturday and Sunday( a couple of days ago)...plus on Saturday I went through the process as if to renew
(up until the payment part) and it seemed I still could at the time...more than 2 weeks after expiration.

Right now I still have one that expired well over a week ago sitting in my account.
For the sake of learning, I shall attempt to renew it as it approaches the 2 week mark.
    (It's a domain I can risk...a "throwaway")

Well, it is all depending on the registrar's policy. Some registrars are holding the expiring domains up to 30 days and gives you a chance to renew them and after that 45 days of redemption period and another 20-30 in pending delete. This is generally for the .com .net and .org. If the domain is valuable to you, just don't loose it or if you want to acquire an expired domain you may try any of the back-ordering services but without any guarantees you will succeed. Then the things are going well too pricey :).

    Good Luck!
