Apart from PPC, Google business is SEARCH

If people started taking advantage of the loops it has then google is out of business. To safe guard and improve its search engine it has to know what a webmaster/promoter doing to get rankings. The more it learns about your/mine activities the better they can tweak their system.

because adsense and adwords are not text links for a start. They are dynamically generated non direct links, absolutely nothing to do with text links at all.

How can they be nothing to do with text links? Adsense can quite easily be simple text links. When you set up Adwords you choose the text that is diplayed in the ad - the only part that is dynamically generated is which ad to show where and when - the ad itself is not dynamically generated.

Ok point take they do not go direct to site they go through Google first and they also do not pass PR.

But my point is why cant Google simply discount paid links instead of penalizing sites that sell them?

You cannot assume that every single paid for text link has been done specifically for PR, admittedly in most cases PR is a big factor but there are definately paid text links that have been done for traffic mainly - that is no different to Adsense ads at all.

By penalizing sites that sell links they are basically saying you should not advertise in that way and therefore you should not have Adsense on your site and you should not use content targeting on Adwords.

Either that or they are saying you cannot buy links specifically for PR - in which case how do they define when someone has bought a link for PR when it could mainly be for traffic.

Question: If you sell a link but put a nofollow tag on the link is that acceptable?

Apparently Google penalized your site for selling links.

Big G will still find out.

you can sell text links but once you add the 'nofollow' rule in place then all of a sardine all those interested in having ads disappear

and therein lies the reason for the penalty from Google

Presumably Google's algo is clever enough to differentiate between paid links and other relevant links (such as reciprocals on a links page?)

Kevin you just failed the oldest test on these forums, don't simply put your site url out in the open here, as many unscrupulous operators will now try replicate it and will have no problem if stealing your content

sad hey but that is the truth

You can get your ranking back but reconsideration of your site . For this you have to remove all the paid content from your site ... if this is feasible for you then go on for reconsideration of your site .. Hope you will get your ranking back !

It's up to the webmaster - There is already a way to do this: use the rel="nofollow" tag on your links. This will keep Google happy and not panelize your site for selling links, as long as those links have the "nofollow" tag.

Remember, Google has no problem with you selling links to be used as advertisements for other sites, but they do have a problem with you selling links which past link juice which has the potential to effect the search results…. That’s where the “nofollow” tag comes in.

    Cheers ....
    Gerald.
