Can anyone review www.RABBITROASTERS.com, its got an intro and is based on Wordpress although its not really a blog. Its only recently been launched so posts are limited. Matt
I had no clue what your website was about until I clicked on merchandise. The content sounded angry. Why do you have a flash video to enter your site. It looks ominous.
dude u gotta work on the menus, expand them a lil ? and maybe some listing of submissions which is easier to browse and is on main page.. that kinda gives the look that ur site is updated regulary.. other wise great design!
+ have u thought abt the legal stuff. i mean if some one disses their ex on their and u get the blame
get rid of the intro, it's really not needed, focus more on the content and layout of your site, then graphics you should tell your viewers what the site is about right away, if i wasn't looking at your site for a review and was acting as a normal web surfer, i would have exited out before the intro was over, i think the three main things you need to do are.. 1. get rid of the intro. 2. get rid of "FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED - It’s time to share your experience" and replace it with a more direct, concise, short description of what your site is about 3.get rid of the background and replace it with a simple black, it's distracting and it'll load the pages faster, you want your readers to be able to block anything distracting so they can focus on the content, content is king
The intro is taking too long to load.. and was it really necessary ? I have no idea what the site is about after clicking around, I would suggest working on that.
Well I hate flash intros anyway as most people will click the close or back button before the flash has even loaded. With yours although the flash is very nice it doesnt really excite me and make me want to enter your site. 'Welcome to RabbitRoasters.com' means nothing to the visitor, what does that tell them about your site or why the should keep reading? Half the people will already know your domain name because they will have either typed in the domain directly or clicked on a link that was obvious what the domain was. The first image is also far too large, especially as it is just a repeat of the image in your header. Make it smaller and the text around it will become easier to read. Also at the bottom of the page make sure you put a link to the next page the visitor should read otherwise you are relying on them working that out for themselves which its surprising how many people dont or wont figure that out. Other then that the design and graphics are nice but without people knowing why they should read your site people will probably just think - Nice looking site and then click away.
To get to the actual site took too long. I think you are going to have problems with angry people contacting you.
Ya Google doesn't like Flash as I'm sure that you know. I also had to scroll down the page just to get to the video so some people might not see anything and think its a blank page. Flash videos are cool but if there isn't any content or text menus then it will not get indexed very well.
We have put copeous disclaimers on the site, if it gets too messy then we will end the idea, but there is an option for removal of any content and that is promoted as much as submitting it. I really appreciate the advice. I will remove the intro, even though I like it. Will replace the background with black. Will try and focus on the content. Ok get the picture, will remove the repeat of the .com and reduce the logo image to make the first page more neat! Hopefully the above should speed up the site load and I guess the latter is a risk of the project! You got any advice on improving google ranking on a wordpress page? To ALL: Thanks so far for the advice please check back and see if you have any other suggestions now I'm doing the above... Matt
Very interesting concept, but a little scary! I agree with some of the other comments about the intro - if I hadn't been going to the site specifically to review it, I never would have gotten past the intro. Also, might want to run this past your attorney. I'd be afraid of a potential lawsuit from some of the Roasters whose information has been posted.
Not really sure on how to broach the subject with my lawyer its not the safest idea i can see but its a novel one. I hope the disclaimers would protect us.
i like the design but i wasn't familiar with that term before accessing your site - think most people will know what is meant by the phrase "rabbit roasters"? just wondering
