Few days ago my computer went to shit. IE kept popping up and I don't even use IE. Things got disabled like the task manager and editing registries. Disk C and D went missing, I had VIRUS ALERT! almost everywhere I looked. Almost everything was gone from the start menu including search, run, control panel, my computer and more. These popups acting like they were my windows alerts were wanting me to buy a virus software to clean it up. So obviously it was a fake virus but a really nastly spyware wanting to make some money from their affiliates by me purchasing this virus software cleaner. That's dirty! I almost have the mess cleaned up. I been scanning with AVG (it caught like 7 trojans) and Spybot search and destroy. The only problem I can't really figure out the solution to is my "All Programs" missing from the Start menu. I been doing alot of cleaning but can't figure this one out.. anyone know how? As you can see, all programs are not there. They're still on my drive though.
I agree. Kaspersky is really good. But only trying its trial version as of now and will expire tomorrow. I will buy a license.
Just search www.google.com with I need to put the "all programs" back on the start menu. ANYONE KNOW HOW? You will get some answer to fix by registry editor.
I fixed it with a malware program. Trojans are still popping up all over the place though. Still working on it ':]
Which one is what? I have all kinds of shit. Take a pick - Trojans, all types of spyware, herpes, gonorrhea (the clap) The trojans are mostly trojan horse generics.
I guess they are in your windows/system32 folder. Sort the system 32 files by modification date (including hidden files). Run an anti-virus scan on the recently modified files in the system32 folder and see if you find any infected files. I had a similar problem. IE opened every few minutes with ads. There were a few files in my system32 folder which were "recently modified". AVG was detecting 1 or 2 as infected, but deleting them wasn't working. After every restart, the files would reappear. I then deleted all files that were modified in previous 2 days and the trojan vanished. system32 is an important folder and I wouldn't advice someone to "blanket delete" all recently modified files. Maybe you can find a better solution at forum like http://forums.techguy.org/
re-installing will wipe everything on your hard drives. Start by not being cheap, and pay for real anti-virus. Free software won't protect you, infact it creates a false sense of security. Get Trend Micro Internet Security PRO, its about as good as it gets. No more porn for you then with AVG
