There are two things I find fascinating about religion. 1) The one thing all religions have in common is they believe they are right. With all the religions that make up the planet, there are countless beliefs, interpretations of those beliefs and varying degrees of those interpretations but the one thing they all have in common is that they believe they are right. 2) Take any religion, religious belief and ask yourself, if that event had occurred in 2008, would you still believe in it? Voices from the sky? A man hearing a voice from a power in the sky? Son of God? No matter what variation of religion you tend to gravitate towards, don’t you find it odd that if the foundation for that belief and the events associated with it happened today, that in fact you probably would not believe them but instead ridicule and mock them. I for one am a religious person but not in the traditional sense. I do believe there is a force, something that created all that we know as life. I do however believe that it is somewhat naive to believe even for a second that mankind; a species who has only begun to scratch the surface of human knowledge can honestly say that they understand a power as great as to create all that we know to be existence. I for one believe let live but I have always found it shocking to think what a waste in this precious gift called life. More deaths in history have been a result of religion than any other concept. While I understand the general structure of religion whether they are to give the hopeless hope or whether the idea that it was created as a mean of control, I am saddened to imagine a world where innocent lives are constantly put in jeopardy over a belief system that started as far back as 10k years ago, a time when people believed that the common cold was some form of a demonic curse. I really hope not to offend anyone as that is certainly not my intent. I have recently found value in expressing general opinion on DPF beyond the traditional business transactions and felt that I wanted to say this publicly. I for one for lack of a better phrase, pray for the day when people wake up and see the beauty in religion, a tool that unites people into one belief but nothing more than that and don’t let it control your life nor use it as an excuse to do wrong and even a crutch not to do all that you need to do in life. I pray for the day when the people of this planet fight over the best education, the cure for all disease and a chance to make life the grand gift it is. I am a realist and know that there will always be fighting, always war and always some form of poverty but hey, if we are going to fight amongst ourselves, lets make it over who is the first to cure aids, who is the first to end hunger, not what your 30th great ancestor said to another person, mimicking that of a common children’s cartoon whereby families feuding for over a hundred years forget why they are fighting. Rant done
All religions are right about some things and all religions are worng about some things. There is no religion that knows it all and is correct about everything - my opinion
If you mix faith with common sense and don't let your logic get overridden [Always] by your religious beliefs, religion is a great asset. Extreme Example: Jumping into fire, hoping god will save you from burns because you prayed for him to do so 50 times. This is right. All religions are imperfect despite their claims to the contrary. Each religion has it's rights and wrongs. We could find many examples for both. What religion works for one person will not work for another. Whether a religion is right or wrong for a person depends on the man, his thoughts, beliefs and so on.
I agree. I believe that there is something good to be gained from all (or nearly all) religions. I consider myself to be eclectic in the area of religious beliefs. I gather what I think is good from whatever religion I know of or read about. I have a strong belief in a God and creator, but I do not ascribe myself to any organized religion.
Religions have core truths in a sea of perversions. The difference between them is in the perversions.
I agree! All religions convey the same thing-that God is everywhere, he is watching us, we should do good things and avoid bad ones. Its different how these things are conveyed, but the central idea of every religion is same. They keep us grounded. Thats why I respect every religion. Its good we are still following the basic rules for being a good human being while being religious even if we follow'em to some extent at times.
Doesn't this sound like something a person in a position of authority (one without supernatural powers) would want his population to know? Such as a president, pastor, dictator...
Dont forget Santa Claus "He knows when you are sleeping, he knows when youre awake. He knows when youve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake..."
About Jesus Christus, let me see first some prove that he ever lived here on our earth. Same with the rest. Let me see some real prove, before I believe it. Every religion makes his/her own rules and believes. There can be so much different religions. But there can be only one 'God' Every country has his own name for 'God'. But the principal remains. About "GOD" Yes, I believe in "God". Someone has created the universe. Someone has seen that the Earth is liveable for every creature here. With sunny days or rainy days. All is in great balance. Some people where as good as dead and they saw theire (ghost/mind) flying above theire almost dead body. (near dead) So yes, I'm beginning to be convinced there's something after we die too ! And I specially beginning to believe in God too. All those years growing-up and learning for nothing ? No, that can't. Otherwise we all could have a more simpler life without so much stress and problems. Jason
The only religions i belive are the heaven religions and they are almost about telling about god, But only 1 religion wins at the end.
what is religion?..most people answer this question wrong.. religion is not just what we belief but also what we think. some beliefs are just false beliefs and it is up to us to use our thinking capacity to detect which is right and which is wrong so we can act according to reason.
Only the three Abrahamic religion are right, the others I think are more like ideologies (Buddhism, Atheism, etc..). Peace,
Something I was always curious about, maybe someone has the answer. While I get that most religion has to be based on faith and that sometimes you just have to accept things, go figure BTW but the question is: Isn't the idea that Adam and Eve had three kids, Cain, Abel and Seth? Now being that Adam and Eve where the first people God put on earth and hadn't put anyone else on earth directly, how is it that their kids had kids? Sadly, that's usually the question that caused me to get kicked out of bible study
Take a step outside the planet if you will, and take a good look. We're not that big of a deal. Now turn around and look back - it's scary and somewhat revolting. Inbreeding. Happens more than you think - explains quite a bit about modern man. Even with evolution there is massive inbreeding - but not on the scale of just two.
Those three sons are specifically mentioned, yes. It is not mentioned how many daughters they had. So, yes, inbreeding is the answer, but the results were different than they would be today. According to the account they were closer to a state of perfection, so the problems that result from incest were lessened.
In Sikh History, holy people from various faiths approached the Fifth Sikh Guru and asked Him which is the best religion. The reply was... Of all religions, the best religion is to chant the Name of the Lord and maintain pure conduct. Of all religious rituals, the most sublime ritual is to erase the filth of the dirty mind in the Company of the Holy. Of all efforts, the best effort is to chant the Name of the Lord in the heart, forever. Of all speech, the most ambrosial speech is to hear the Lord's Praise and chant it with the tongue. Of all places, the most sublime place, O Nanak, is that heart in which the Name of the Lord abides. ||8||3|| Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji - Ang 266 And ultimately - there is only One God... Some call Him, 'Raam, Raam', and some call Him, 'Khudaa-i'. Some serve Him as 'Gusain', others as 'Allaah'. ||1|| He is the Cause of causes, the Generous Lord. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji - Ang 885
Ok so are all religions right, NO but here is the thing, if man didn't have religion or if man didn't have a god or goddess to praise over there would be no man. We need some form of religion, why do you think each continent has its own even to the very small tribes of the amazon. They have a religion or go to africa to parts where we have yet to corrupt and you will see religion. It is passed down from generation to generation.
