    Toolbar PR is very generic and is just a broad measurement of a sites health. I'm sure Google's internal PR assigns such PR on a keyword/page level.

    Just because a site is say a PR 9 does not mean it will rank well for every keyword on the page. Proper targeting of keywords can help to outrank higher PR sites. But if those higher PR sites are targeting the same keywords, good luck...

    PR has an other value too though. Potential clients who have the Google toolbar or a PR plugin might trust a site with a higher PR more than one without it, especially when buying products.

    Keep it simple.

    Why should any webowner (you) spend time to build links if she/he could creat unique content instead ?

    In my opinion, today, PageRank shows only how popular and respected your site is amongst other webowners and visitors but not amongst Google.

    Although, SEO is important and Google knows that. Good onpage SEO can make your content more relevant.

    What good is content without backlinks? They both are important. You need to build up authority in the search engines to get the hits.

    I also heard that Google PR will be updated around August. A friend's friend who work at Google just leaked the news. Can anybody confirm that?

    I suspect that the PR update was based on backlinks from early may because I did more aggressive link building in June and July and seen drops in PR across the board.
