Philippines, Why not import it directly from Vietnam or Thailand. Rice imported from USA. The price of rice is increasing because our government is a rice hoarder. They are importing and buying too much rice that's why the price is inflating in the world market. The rice they bought is being sold to the poor families maximum of 2 kilos per family only. They are importing for the whole countries consumption.
I don't think you understand the situation. #1 Vietnam has imposed rice export controls #2 US is a leading rice producer If you don't want to eat US rice then don't eat it
Hey people are picky about their rice. My mom always went out of the way to get the imported rice, so did my Phillipino neighbors growing up to make this awesome rice and beef stew. I never really understood, but I had seen the obsession But after I had been eating American rice for a while and my mom brought Korean rice on a recent visit I think I kind of get it. I dunno, American white rice is kind of... missing something. Its like a sugary jelly... but the Asian rice I've had is like, crunchier as if there are a lot of little flavorful grains inside the sugary part. I don't know if its the strain, or the agricultural method or processing or what, but definitely have a preference if offered...
I'm not really a rice expert but Californian rice is short grain and Carolia rice is long grain. The situation in the Phillipines is that there is a rice shortage. India and Vietnam have imposed export controls. The rice bowl of Burma was just wiped out. In fact there are world wide shortages. Many people are just happy to have something to eat.
YES there is a world wide shortage because the Philippine government bought too much. Philippines is now the #1 importer of rice in the world.
You don't get it, The volume of rice the Philippine government for the consumption of the whole country. They are only for sale to poor families and a family of five could only buy up to two kilos of rice per day. Since its for poor families only why is it limited to buy rice? Rice trader are also importing the commercial rice for middle class and rich families. Few years ago Philippines is one of top exporters in Asia, now it's the number one importer in the world. Thailand is the worlds number one exporter of rice in the world. If they can't supply that much how come the US can?
The price of rice is going up in the US. A year ago I could buy three 20-lb bags for $10. Now the price is between $13-$20 for one 20-lb bag.
OMG! Price there is 2x more expensive. I'm just wondering why Philippines is importing rice there? This is the craziest conspiracy I have ever heard. The price of rice is increasing because Philippines is buying all rice in the world. Filipino farmers can't even sell it in good price because the government is accusing the rice trader for rice hoarding. Imagine a country who's one of the top exporter in Asia is now the worlds number one importer
Rice is mainly consumed withing 100 miles of where it is produced. The US doesn't produce must rice but it isn't a big consumer. So we have rice to export. But we can't even provide 5% of the requirements in Asia. World Production 2006 Estimated Asia 537 million metric tons Africa 20 mmt US 8.5 mmt Europe 2.5 mmt
