Along the line of using searchable keywords in your ad text. Your keywords will be bolded in your ad text if it contains the keyword the user was searching for. That is one of the most prominent eye draws that you can get. Try integrating the keyword into the first line (definitely) and then once more in the following two lines, this way you have two bolded keywords / phrases.

Also, remember that users search in two and three word phrases more than just a single word. Your first line should reflect the search phrase to increase the relevancy of the ad to the prospect.

One more.... beware the content network, yes its cheap and it drives traffic, but they don't convert. So if you are measuring performance by conversion value (you should be) you will be wasting money. People who convert do so mainly through the direct search.

The Content network is much maligned but can be a good source of funds if you know how to set your bids at an acceptable level!

Use keywords and adcopy that directly reflects your sale's page! Don't start paying more than $0.50 per click if You can help it and keep in mind that You will have to pay for many clicks that probably won't convert to sales. Set Your daily budget with some care.

    Good Luck!
    Dave.

Want more white space to stand out even more? I stumbled across this one a few weeks ago, it's incredibly effective. LOSE A LINE! You may think it's a waste but next to all the other ads, it's gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

The spirit makes a good point. I would recommend that people that are new to AdWords really pay attention to cost per conversion. Advice to the novice: Set up your content network as a completely separate campaign with its own budget and track your performances. Don't pay attention to traffic / cost per click since these will be high (traffic) and low (cost, since people aren't as willing to spend money on lower quality traffic). Set up your conversion goals and watch your metrics.

As a side note, check your analytics package to see the bounce rate / time on site / average page views between the content network campaigns and the search network campaigns. Generally the content network is poor, but if they are sticking to your site, there is definitely a value in this lower-cost traffic.

No problemo, let me know how you get on with it if you use it.

And just to 2nd what PPC-Coach said, don't use the word "scam"! I only modified the example from the original post in this thread as I'm a lazy man.

Great stuff. One might almost think you work for Yahoo!, trying to drive down advertiser costs and hurt Google's bottom line :)

I've found many of these tips to be true through my own testing.
