If a site is not truly copyrighted ...

If a site is not truly copyrighted (i think most people just put that it is copyrighted but it really isn't) would it be legal to find the sites in here that are making the most money and just copy the code exactly (and of course change the ads to our own ads) and host it from our own server to make money?

    Would it be ethical?

Would it even be worthwhile...since domain names etc have a lot to do with the success of a site...

In most countries written content and pictures are automatically copyrighted as soon as they are created - no registration is required and no copyright symbol is required. If you take content from other sites it is both unethical and probably illegal copyright infringement.

yo are asking this question means you know its not ethical. comon, how can stealing someone elses work be ethical?

instead of looking for short cut, invest some time and create some unique content. you will be better off in the long run. i guess you never heard of duplicate content penalty.

Nooo no no.. everything is not done! Remember what Einstein said: Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere!

There are endless possibilities. What of a rock for example: Some may see just a rock, others the foundations of a house, a castle, others still may see a chess piece or a sculpure. A rock is what you make of it.

The www is a great place to connect with others and share ideas and interests. Make a site about one of your strange passions. If others have that interest too, they will find it, or better yet, maybe they never heard of it but now you've opened their eyes to something new. It's a wonderful thing, just keep on dreaming and DOING :D

writing original content is ineffective these days......too much effort too little result for beginner
but if your blog/site is well established like John Chow's blog, writing your own attractive original content is a must

there are still ways to take someone's works and then convert it into original contents...of course this is still a grey area of copyright theft

Copying someone elses content is probably the WORST way to get your site going.

But if you are going to do it, at least add some value! Just copying the whole site is ridiculous.
