Why does someone's domain name point to my blog?

    I have a blog at blogspot.com and today I noticed that there is a domain name that points to my blog. I looked it up and it is registered to some company called Electronic Allies, LLC.

    Does anyone know what this means?

    impossible, they would point to their own site but not yours. is it the registrar error?

    I have no idea, all I know is that the domain used to be a website with the same niche and now that domain points to my blog at blogspot.

    when you say "points to" what do you mean exactly? if you type in that domain name in the address bar and go to it, your address replaces it and your blog appears? what happens exactly?

    what if you do a google search for site:hisdomainname
    ?

    When you type in their domain URL it goes to my blogspot blog, and their URL is still in the address bar when my blog displays. I still can type in my blogspot URL and my blog displays along with my blogspot URL in the address bar.

    When I do a search site:hisdomainname just a couple of results come up with a /join.htm and /quiz on the end, but when I click on them, it goes to blogger and says "The blog you are looking for can not be found".

    I am starting to think that their website no longer exists and they redirected it to my blog for some reason.

    ok, when you do that, grab the source code for the page and see what is happening in it

    maybe he has set up some kind of frame to grab your site content?

    (to grab the source, go to the top of explorer and under View select Source)
    compare that to the source you get if you go to your page directly, and you might see some differences

    The source is very short and contains code like this....

    <head>

    </head>
    <frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">

    <frame frameborder="0" noresize />
    </frameset>

    <!-- pageok -->
    <!-- 07 -->
    <!-- 7.9-->
    </html>

    I found this code to force my blog out of the frame and put my URL in the address bar.....

    <script type="text/javascript">
    if(self != top) { top.location = self.location; }
    </script>

    I think the are doing it to try and use your content to get their site more indexing in the search engines, I've had it happen to my site

    I wonder if that javascript does anything to help?

    thanks for that javascript, it worked for me!

    now I will wait and see what google does, whether they will deindex his page that had me in a frame or not

    the sad thing about it, was that not only did he have my website framed, he put an adbrite popover ad on it, so he was trying to steal traffic searches that were intended for my site

    thanks again for the javascript, and I just gave you green rep for all of your responses in this good thread, thanks

    Thanks for the thanks! Today, all of a sudden now, the URL does not redirect to my blog. After they saw that it didn't work anymore! Glad I found that code.

    Here is the site I found it, it has some great information:

    http://www.willmaster.com/library/tips/URL-masking.php

    Oh, and I put the code just above the </body> tag on my blog.

    As far as I know, what they are doing doesn't help/hurt you at all, and it certainly doesn't help them in any way that I can think of. But, the javascript method to break out of the frame is the easiest way to solve the problem if you don't like what they are doing.

    well, it is putting duplicate content to the search engine, so that has to hurt a little at least (I know it is because I can see my page showing up in the google search results but with his domain name as the result)

    the fact that he was using my page to put ads on as well was annoying

    if you put my site name in google, his 'page' was showing up about 15th in the results, even though 'his page' was actually a frame of one of my pages... this can't be good I don't think

    I didn't contact anybody, but I put the javascript on that oncamera posted just now and it has worked in popping out of his frame, so maybe google might change their index?? I don't know, but I will wait and see......

    anyways, it is a big improvement with that javascript because the way it was with his frame, is if someone went to my site through his link, they could surf my whole website and it would always have his domain in the address bar, and his adbrite ads showing up as popups over my site :mad:

    Here is what the company write to me:

    "Thanks for pointing that out to us. The domain is for sale and the name
    servers were not configured properly. We've corrected the issue, which
    should propogate and resolve correctly over the weekend."

    Also a note about using the code on Blogspot:

    When you go to "cusomize" or "Layout", you must click on the option fast, before that page pops out of the frame.

    Googlebot does not run javascript, so if he was still pointing at your domain you would still have the duplicate content problem.
