I don't have one personally, but YES they can be profitable.
However you must realise there are tens of thousands of game sites also out there so competition is fierce, unless you can offer something your competitors cant you will find it hard to get much traffic and earn anything.

I don't have one but I've heard others on DP talk about how profitable they can be. It just has to be done right.

that's pretty hard to do with arcade sites, unless you are a flash game dev. or can hire one so you can get exclusive games.

And yes, they are profitable once you get decent traffic, because they younger crowd (10-12yo) tend to think ads are part of the site, so they click A LOT.

if you have enough traffic you`ll earn money. But if you have the same games with all other sites it will be hard to get traffic.

and you know, many sites advertise "more than 1000 games...4000 games...6000...1,000,000,000" etc. but I feel that what users like is a clean, easy to use interface with goodgames. Quality over quantity.

I own an arcade site myself, and the cpc and cpm is pretty crappy in the arcade business. When I was getting around 2-3k unique visits every day, I'd get around $5 a day with adsense. This isn't really a problem for me since I didn't make my site for money. In order to make good profit with an arcade site, you'll need a ton of visitors, or just end up with pop-ups or adult ads. Having multiple arcade sites might work well, I might try that in the future.

Basically, if you're going to make an arcade site just for money, it's not a good choice.

i get 6000+ uniques each month to mine and might make $50-$75/mo in adsense. See my sign for the URL. Its not that good but it only cost $35 to install.

I own MostPlays.com Get around 4000-5000 uniques per day, the sites been running a year now but currently not using any adverts on the site so it's not creating any profit.

This is because adsense and adbrite won't allow me to use them because of a very limited amount of adult nature games that some users have uploaded which is slightly annoying.

If anyone has any monetising ideas let me know! Thanks

can't you some how monitor what users upload, for example in a wordpress blog, before a comment can be published to the public, it is sent to you for approval; what script are u using
