hi ... i have a customer who has a website selling ebooks and she wants it advertising on the net
the site is bigredbookshop.com and she has given me a small advertising budget to work with

what i am after is cheap ways of getting the site out there

I already have it in my signature

i set it up with google but they have tried to increase the cpc to £2.50 per keyword which is more than she sells the books for so very uneconomic

i dont know much about this ... if I had say $200 what could i do .. obviously every ebook she sells that money will be going into advertising also

    any help appreciated

Sorry if this comes across as petty, but the first thing your friend needs to do is improve that web site and get it ready for customers. Until then, any money you spend on advertising will be wasted.

hi i dont understand ... whats wrong with it?
when google had it at a reasonable price she got plenty of customers
it does convert well when the right traffic gets there
but i dont want to spend money buying traffic as 99% of traffic is spam crap

    Hi,

You first need to improve your site's design, so that the customers like it.

You don't need to spend much on that just change the red color to some good color and get a good logo. You can get a good logo in $5 to $10.

Than you can concentrate on marketing.

I guess, you are using oscommerce, I am not sure if it is SEO friendly or not, but if you make a SEO friendly site, you can get a lot of organic traffic, as you have a good collection. Organic traffic is free of cost.. :)

Hope it help, have a nice day!

agree with happyhardik, the site needs a makeover including getting the right size image of the authors book cover as it was stretched in firefox.

the adsense is somewhat of a distraction, perhaps put this on the footer. what about adding some content about the authors... could help with indexing.

on this page index.php?cPath=49_85 you should have a link which says readreview - dont ever presume people know they have to click on the image to find out more!

in terms of marketing... hmmmm i would say think about an affiliate program where you split the revenue but this is very niche and not sure it would be a great success. do any of those authors have websites, as a backlink would be good. try looking for forums with book sections and maybe ask if you can sponsor the section.

has the owner of the site thought about mixing mainline publications into the site (using amazon affiliate links) - just a thought.

    good luck!

The following is not about traffic but I think there are some serious areas to address on the website:

    1. She hasn't filled in some of her pages e.g. the Shipping & Returns page says 'Put here your Shipping & Returns information.'

This would be the first link I would look at when browsing the site, because I would want further information on how the e-books would be downloaded, what would happen if there was a problem etc. She hasn't filled in 'Conditions of Use' or 'Privacy' either.

    2. The categories section needs to be improved - when you click 'Novels' a huge list of authors appear and you have to click on them. There is absolutely no way I would have the time to browse this way. This list should be organised by theme such as 'classics' 'romance' 'thriller' etc.

    3. She should add an 'About Us' page giving information on her company, what they do, how it works etc. This would inspire trust.

    4. There is also a category called 'ebooks' - this could be quite confusing to some customers, as the site calls everything 'ebooks' on the homepage, then splits categories into 'childrens', 'novels' and 'ebooks' etc - customers need to know exactly what they are getting, and some may get confused and think that the novels aren't downloadable.

Hope that helps - I really think these areas need looking at as well as increasing traffic.
