How to handle advertising inquiries?

    Hi all,

One of my content rich niche sites has been generating solid revenue from adsense only for quite some time. I get about 1500 unique visitors a day with about 4500 pageviews per day (all high quality US search engine traffic). I have gotten a few inquiries about placing ads on the site that would be highly targeted to a retail site in the same niche. Does anyone have an idea what the going rate is for something like that? Or maybe where to start the negotiation price at? I am thinking maybe a monthly or yearly charge for the ad or link.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have about the same traffic and the last advertising I accepted was four 15 word text ads for $500 (per year). I should have charged $2,000 but she promised cash on the barrel head -- and I was temporarily embarrassed, so I took it. She was ecstatic.
The ads aren't hurting me any and I will probably let her renew at the same figure because she has been praising me up to her friends.

How much are you making from adsense? You should use your adsense revenue and mark it up 10-20%, and use that as a starting point

Adsense should give you a good idea of what to charge, as hermione_dies says, just consider any other possible factors, such as the distracting power of some ads, the possibility that they lead to previously unknown competitors, methods of payment, payment plans, maintenance, profile of sponsor, etc.

The worse off you think you would be, the more you would add to the adsense revenue.

    Couldn't have said it better.

Remember it's better to over price and get a negative response then sell it for less than it's worth. Haggle and start high.
