Now it's around $35! I want to transfer my domains to a new registrar. Any suggestions please? Do you think the transfer will take a long time? How do you get the authorization code? How long will the websites be down during that? Your advice is highly appreciated. Thanks!
I'd transfer to www.godaddy.com or www.wsmdomains.com. I like them both very much. The authorization code is emailed to you. Transfers usually take 1-3 days to complete. The website should not go down at all since your nameservers will remain the same.
Thank you so much for the prompt reply. The newbie that I am was worrying about the websites going down. Very funny, I think!
Because I am a newbie! Does GoDaddy have a fee for the transfer? They offer a free year of extension, right?
Mary, please my post in this thread. If you can move your domain do it. Still consider filing complaints. Too many people got the Yahoo bait and switch... It was about a year ago that Yahoo ran $.99-$2 .com specials, with renewal prices at $13. This was the bait. Now that these promo domains were due to expire, Yahoo pulled the switch. No longer $13 renewals but $35 renewals. Since the promo domains are 60 days or less to renewal, domain registrants can either pay the $35 or let their domains expire. Yahoo pulled a well thought out bait and switch, and my opinion of them is quite poor. I will spend my money elsewhere...
I will make sure to file a complaint, thank you very much for the advice. I understand that domains expiring in less than 60 days are already in the trap, and I have many there! Do I file the complaint before renewing to ask for the application of the $13 fee, or do I ask for a refund after renewing?
Can anyone please help me with this one: I am trying to bulk transfer my domains to GoDaddy, but I am having an error when I try to checkout, with the message 'unable to process'. I am now trying with one domain to see if it will go through, but in vain. So I am wondering what might be the problem? Should the info and name of the account owner at GoDaddy be the same as the credit card's info?
Mary_Fb - are your domains unlocked and do you have the Auth code for each? Yes, it can raise red flags at GoDaddy if the name on the credit card is different than the account holder or registrant.
I filed my complaints immediately upon learning of the problem, even before Yahoo billing me. The BBB has already forwarded my complaint to Yahoo for their response. In my complaint I requested that I be reimbursed the fees in excess of $13 per domain name. I also requested that Yahoo allow domain registrants the ability to renew their domain names at any time, and not just at the end of the billing cycle. Good luck
$35 is ridiculous. If you email moniker.com support they can lower your pricing from $10 to $7.77 or something.
checkout the prices here. Cheapest prices for some of the TLDs and great prices for renewals as well. Free whois privacy for new registrations. Bulk transfer also possible. Free push in case you make a sale... $$$
Yes, they are all unlocked and I got their auth codes (thanks God they are provided in the panel, and I didn't have to deal with/email/call Yahoo). I will try to change the information to match then. It sucks to not have a CC of my own. Do you mind of you PM a copy of your complaint? You tackled all the problems I want to complain about too, and it'd be great if I have your complaint to fire them with it right away.
It's best not to use a canned/cookie cutter response. My concern was any lack of notification and the inability to move or renew my domains at will. Even a short statement is better then none.
Hi again, I successfully moved all my domains from Yahoo to GoDaddy, except 2, one is too new, and the second shows the privacy package's email instead of mine, so I didn't receive the code. Anyways, today I was charged the renewal fee of a domain that I already moved to GoDaddy! What! Why is there still a list of my domain in my Yahoo domains panel? Can I go ahead and "cancel" the plans for all the domains? Will Yahoo refund the renewal fee for me?
I think you can and should. If you have problems, try contacting them by phone. (But you should make sure to also have it in writing). Ask how they can justify charging for a domain name that is not registered with them...also have the date of transfer handy. I think it was an automated renewal. You could change from automated renewals to manual...just make sure you have other ways of keeping up with renewal dates. .
Mary, I would contact immediately and ask them to refund your money. If they do not provide a refund, contact your credit card company. I was able to avoid giving Yahoo one penny, thankfully. I had switched my Payment method to Paypal for all Yahoo domains. Then I revoked my permission to bill my Paypal account. After the domains had transferred, I called my credit card company to verify no bills from Yahoo. Then I cancelled each domain at Yahoo. If you have other domains that are moved, cancel all the plans. But still contact Yahoo to get your money back for being billed for domains no longer at Yahoo. $35 is just an insane amount of money to pay for a domain. Good luck. @mozzeratti Yahoo will not let you do manual renewals. Nor does Yahoo give you the option to do anything other then change billing methods or cancel the domain. That's part of the "trap" they have created...
