I'm not going to sway off-topic so this will be short.

There is only one person who can answer with regards to your 'one MAJOR problem' and unfortunately, he's too busy dancing the U.S.A. while counting his bankroll, so your point is moot. LD overshadows lynx 100 fold, needs no marketing or promotion, and is widely used... *gasp* even though there is this supposed 'MAJOR problem' you choose to recite *gasp*

Note* (you cannot stop warez even with encryption, and any fool would know that)

Now, if you need to say something, say it in a PM, because this thread isn't the place for it.

This thread is about some extra code found, and Bruce being kind enough to inform others to check for it, and also for Derek to hopefully explain what had happened (maybe he just missed it is this instance)

Fixed, and sorry, I don't do unemployment. However, judging by how poorly phpStynx is going, *YOU* just might be next in that unemployment line.

    hahaha

Wishful thinking on your part, Spider-Man is like me, he isn't desperate as some to make money, but he does and so could you have if your ego hadn't got in the way.

That green man is a hell of a perfect match because I'm not kidding you an0n you do come across as as a jealous little man at times.

For the record you wouldn't know how phpLynx is doing, your not part of it, never have been and never likely to be as a result of your own doing by the way. Burning all your bridges comes to mind here.

Now for goodness sake, get this thread back on track.

The whole point of the thread can be summed up right here. It was to relay what was found so others could check. Honestly with all the things that could have been done with a hidden/leftover code this does seem minor.

When Dargre was working on my site I can say that he seemed professional and went the extra mile to get it right. Part of why finding this was disappointing to me. I hope that it was just a mistake in leaving a snippet of code in there.

Now guys - Is linking to search results for WAREZ sites really neccessary? You can visit the first and see that the download links are dead in there so someone is doing their job in shutting them down.

Promoting Warez for whatever reason and whatever manner is not exactly helpful to anyone.

It's too bad DP doesn't actually moderate their forums.

I wasn't necessarily promoting warez - I was proving a point that all other major scripts out there have been 'cracked' and are available free of charge all over the internet. The simple fact of the matter is I posted that post to prove a point - phpLynx have taken steps to attempt to combat piracy. Matter of fact is, phpLynx has several files encrypted that a coder, designer or mod-creator would ever need to look at - anyone that 'does' need to look at them obviously has sinister reasons for doing so.

    ------------

Thanks for the negative rep that stated 'yo momma unemployed now :)' Since you evidently haven't done your homework, my entire family (short of the children and elderly) are all employed - unlike some of those in this thread/watching this thread that claim to be unemployed and work on the side. Ah, gotta love the Government.

    ---Edit---
    Not so wise Hyper;)

Seems to me that the point of the thread was not phplynx, warez, search results related to warez, the steps taken to combat piracy, unemployment benefits, encrypted files and you get my point.

Not saying they are bad topics or not interesting to read about, but maybe they should have their own thread where everyone can fight about them there and I don't need to be involved in the fighting???

This thread is just trying to bring a small problem to light so others are aware and can see if it affects them also or if the issue was a mistaken leftover code.

Understood - though I'm not the one that took the thread off topic initially;) Will start a new thread on the matter sooner or later.

I pointed this out in another thread by this same person.
Showing links to warez sites I thought was out of order.
I reported the post and of course, no reply from a moderator.

Because DigitalPoint is such a high profile site, the more noise we make about it, the more can - and hopefully will - be done about the situation. Until then, I advise you do something to protect your script;)

Good post, and while I definitely understand some of the other posters concerns regarding the abuse of scripts and all the hard work that's put into them your highlighting them will now hopefully let people who care go to these and report them to the respective owners who can then take action.

My opinion, it justifies fully why we have to take at least a token step at trying to prevent this kind of IP theft.

    The script is protected. But
    As anon posted:
So maybe someday when this happens to your script (if it ever becomes popular , I'll post links to warez sites so that folks can download it.

There are nulled versions of vBulletin out there. You and your boyfriend will do all they can to bash "Popular" directory scripts. So I take anything you and your friend say with a grain of salt.

By the way eSyndicat is not "My Script"

    That was uncalled for, Anon.

First, I've used them all by now and IMO phpLynx is a superior script. The most popular is not necessarily the best... look at McDonald's food, for example.

Second, as Jamie has already stated, phpLynx is no longer encrypted - time to update your facts.

    What are you referring to?

And so have I, and Stynx isn;t in the same realm.

No kidding. I like esyndicat better than most.

Its time you get your facts straight prior to clicking that post button.
It *IS* still encrypted, and in places where it shouldn't be. Especially since, god forbid, I need to update a compromised modifier!

Thanks for your input minstrel. How are you feeling today? How was your day?
Let us begin your session now....

Care to tell me WHY the places that are encrypted shouldn't be? Do you really have a clue about php coding or is there more to those whispers that you get others to do the coding and then claim it for yours? I'm not making accusations here its just you clearly don't appear to have a clue about coding if you think the areas we've protected are needed in any way.

I feel the need to address this comment - It has been confirmed (by a coder not involved in this) that the snippet of code was in a back up of the file from as early as April 1st - Long before an0n ever had access to that particular file.

For the love of god almighty himself, I *JUST* said why. Do you have a clue as to what I am actually talking about?

omg you've figured it all out! I never code! matter o'fact, I don't even have fingers!

Not only are you making accusations, but you are also making a fool out of yourself.

Here, let me provide you with an example:

    File: class.phpmailer.php

Issue: PHPMailer 1.7, when configured to use sendmail, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands via shell metacharacters in the SendmailSend function in class.phpmailer.php.

Now, do you think I am going to wait for an incompetent group of individuals to patch, re-encrypt and then have to download it and 'hope' everything works right?

Now the point, I can patch this myself and it shouldn't even be encrypted. Its a base file that comes with the smarty library. WHY is it encrypted? who the hell knows.

There are a million php hardcore coders who could probably throw me every which way imaginable with their vast knowledge, however, you can't and it's obvious with your post, so stop trying to type like you know what you're talking about.
