Yes, it's euphemism for a pyramid or ponzi scheme. It doesn't make money, just moves it around from the last in to the early joiners.

Nowadays most hyips are created to cheat people ..but there are few programs that are build to last and have outside revenue streams etc. You need to do reasearch before invest . and do not trust anything that offers you more than 2% daily..or consider it pure gambling
