how many directories are enough

Enough is not the right word for seo that,s the first lesson i learned
specially when it comes to directories there is no limit .
hundreds of new dir,s listed on the web and lots of directories lost or gain PR ,every time google upgrades them
so adding your url on every single directory seems impossible but keeping up with new directories with high PR is relevantly easy
do not stop adding url even if you achieved your PR goal bcoz some directories do generate traffic.

So we need to go and lst in the dropped domains spruking high PR to feed the QBC and so that they then can go and flog this crapola to to some poor newbie.

and your also saying for people to list thier site in as many rubbish directories as possible so that they can get their PR jollies off?

1,000,000+ directories is not enough because so many directories are continuosly disappearing, losing pr, getting banned, etc and if you stop adding your links to the directories, your current links will eventually disappear.

I can only sit in wonder at some of the brilliant advice given here, your links will disappear, link to dropped domains, link to crap.

Lets see not only is it being suggested i submit my site to all of this crap, but your saying i need to have eyes that look like pizz holes in the snow because the only thing i should be doing is 24/7 submiting to them.

O wait no i can part with my hard earnt $ and pay some crap hole submitter to do it all for me.

Honestly how bright is that information. for you both how about this thought.

Build a site that offers real value to the reader, advertise in the targeted areas relating to your domain, this would include limited submissions to a few directories that would also assist in targeting that traffic.

Continue to work hard on your end product and guess what, all of that crap your suggesting wont be needed.

Submit to 1,000,000+ directories? Forget it! I will not waste all of my time to do that, only 300 are too much for me, I have a lot more important tasks than that to do.

    Hey, folks.
When are you going to stop foolin' around, eh?
Have you EVER seen a top-quality (I mean a very popular with thousands of UV every day) site listing themselves in free directories? Ha ha ha :D

Think before you do something! Why is this that in your process of learning you try to learn from losers? Why? Can't you just learn from people who have done something significant?

If you can get accepted in two major directories, yahoo and dmoz, then that's all you need.
    then, focus on writing articles.

    I'd say a few a day.

You don't need to overdo it.

Try to filter out the good ones. Try to find ones specific to your industry.

    And that's pretty much it.

i believe in quality instead of quantities so it is enough if u get good back links from the directories and sites and if u want to maintain this back links you have to just submit your site in some newly developed or some new researched directories.

i am professional SEO Specialist if any one do their job to freelance pls visit my site as under.

In link building process no one can use Enough word that now its enough for my site :p

So, always see for more and more quality links from directories and relevant sites.

Dont count that in how many directories you have been submitted because you get hardly 60 to 70 % results (If you did quality submission) from web directories.

    Thanks :)

Says it all really. They keep disappearing must be a message there....

your current links will eventually disappear.

yep, that's true as well ;)

    More sound advice.

It's desperation, lack of knowledge and zero promotion budget that forces folks to keep submitting to free directories. Do you know why these shut down? because nobody buys paid directory listings, and the directories have to shut down, they aren't making any money.
