both work very well i think the sub-domain has the better chance of separate page rank the folder directory version is still my favorite. users remembering well thats down to the domain name anyway... i.e. forums.totallyimpossibledomainnametoremember.com or totallyimpossibledomainnametoremember.com/forums.... which is easier? hmmm might have to register that domain name lol
Domain name / forum or domain name / forums (with or without the "s") is what I would use. If you ever want to use a content management system like MKPortal, you have to have your forums in a /forum folder. To prevent problems in the future if you ever wanted to add a program to handle content, go with a /forums folder. Besides MKportal, a lot of CMSs are going to integrate better with the forum if you do not use a subdomain.
I prefer a sub directory. With a sub directory page rank will automatically carry/flow from your home page to your forums. You will also make Google think that all of the content is tied with the main site. That will benefit your site as a whole because it adds plenty of new content. With a subdomain Google doesn't really care what is on the root of the domain or other subdomains. Your main site will not gain any advantage of the forums in terms of SEO and your forums won't get the benefit of the established crawl rate and page rank transference.
Well that would be one long domain. I was thinking I like the sub dir better, but users might be getting used to subdomans with the singular forum. Well that's good info. And another score for sub dir. So that's how google sees it? I never get how most sites have sitename/blog, not "blogs". Yet have sitename/forums. Looks like we just adjust to the culture.
On sites it's only "blog" because it's just one blog, usually by the developers/owners of the website. It's usually "forums" because the forum has many other forums under different categories.
This was public service anouncement brought to you by raptrex & fattony69 But a blog has many "blogs" under it too. Yes, what you said is more logical.
