Is it possible that a site ranking for a keyword at position #2 in google - on the keyword having 20K hits per day, and receiving 2-3 visits only? could it be that keyword is not generating this much any more and data is old?

it's highly possible especially if the keyword is a certain event or star. For example, people might be highly interested in new song today but in a couple of weeks the interest will fade away.

yes I understand that, in my case it's generic... where can I see the estimate for 1 year? or keyword data based on month graph or smth like that? is there a service that provides this information?

Sound like your estimate tool isn't that great.
I find that Google's adword estimate tool is the best, but it only gives like "hi" or "low" traffic type estimates, not a number.

I also use adwords, but dont really find it that useful. I mean how much traffic does a keyword get if the bar is half full? or a quarter full?

Think of what might the keyword varies. Might be certain word will be added or changed, or changing into synonyms, target those possible.

Yes, you are correct the data is old or just plain inaccurate.

In the only study that I know of, the AOL data leak of two years ago:

the #1 spot gets about 40% of the clicks
the #2 spot gets about 12% of the clicks.

So, if the keyword is getting 20,000 queries/day, you should be getting
    about 2,000 or more.

As far as I know, there is currently no accurate way of knowing the queries/day other than first hand experience.

Although, you could place an Adwords ad, bid enough to be on first page, and the stats will tell you how many impressions your ad gets.

There is an article here explaining how to get this info from Adwords for free, but its a lot of work
