French ads on US-based English language website

I brought up a new website last night. The homepage only gets french Adsense ads delivered from Google, while sub pages (same template) get US ads delivered. The domain name is English. The server is in California. Website language is (of course) English.

    Has anyone seen this before?

It happens sometimes, though I've never known why.

It's a brandnew domain name - no income links yet. I guess I will have to contact Google to see if they can figure it out.

I would not say a thing about an occasional ad in a different language, but everything everytime on the homepage?! Weird.

Try using section targetting. See if more relevant ads are shown.

that's weird - even when looking at my sites about France, in France, I almost never see French ads - because the sites are written in English I assume

presumably the site meta-tags / page headers in your site don't say lang=fr or similar (if you are using a french sourced template perhaps?)

i can explain if you use AOL or another global ISP.
these ISPs operate in many countries and from time to time re-allocate ip-pool for diff countries according to requirements.
so from your IP google might think that you from France and show ads accordingly.
next time you see french ads check your ip at getip.com
100% it will show your location as France.

    Hi,

I have the same problem as a lot of you. My site is in English, my IP address comes back USA, but my google ads are FRENCH. This is not an IP geographic issue, any ideas. Http://www.askhack.com

I would appreciate any help, this really looks stupid having French ads on my site.

In my sites I only see ads in another language when I am using ips from another countries. I think there is no secret. Maybe you could recheck your ip address and make sure it is from usa.

It appears that for some reason that before google can identify the content of your page it displays random ads. I checked a few hours later and the ads are in english. However I did to a few things such as remove the country codes that msoffice editor will add automatically. I also set the meta tag for language. If i had to guess the majority of the language problems will resolve themselves as soon as google decides what content you have on your site. But like many things I fixed more than one thing at a time so I am not exactly sure if it was the lack of language tag, the country id that MSoffice placed in there by simply typing the name of a country, or if it was a lack of patience. Thanks for checking it out, I am new to adsense.
