SEO Value of .COM vs. .INFO Domain Name

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by Paintball Guns, Jul 7, 2008.

I am creating a website (legitimate, non-spam) and have two options:

    1. Buying a .INFO domain with the exact keyword I want to target. For example, paintball.info
    2. Buying a .COM domain that includes the keyword I want to target. For example, mypaintball.com or yespaintball.com

Which domain name would you choose for long term SEO benefit?

Note: These domains are hypothetical and serve only as examples of targeting the "paintball" keyword.

The first would be the best choice for SEO

IMO, first one is better. However, people still find that it's easy to remember a .com than other TLDs.

Well i think u must go for .com if ur site is related to e-commerce
As .com is targeted for global which means huge traffic.
Becz at the end ur site needs traffic than # 1 position.

If its just simple 10 pages website then u can go for .info

.com would be better for not just "people knowledge of the .com" but also brand awareness. Get the .info and make a feeder site to the .com ;)

When it comes to SEO it's doesn't matter what your domain extension is because spiders crawl and index sites. Not domains.

Most search engines give ALOT of value for having a domain name match exactly for the search term, so the .info in this case would be better for "SEO"... however as others have said the .com domain would likely trump the .info by way of type in and memorability for traffic and referrals. It's a tossup really but if your main goal is search engine traffic then the .info would likely be the best path.

Actually, lets be fair, if your good at SEO/SEM, it doesn't really matter whether it's a keyword.com or a brandable.com.

As I said, it's the actual pages that spiders crawl/index, not the domain names.

But if your SEO skills are not that smart then yeah, probably the .info would be better in this case ;)

GUYS from SEO point of view it should be .com as it generates more traffic,,,,,, than .info
As .com has much more weight than .info when it comes to traffic,,,,,
Becz extensions do have a impact,,,,,,,
If ur globally targeting u need to go for .com
But if ur targeting for say India then i would go like this paintball.in and it would definitely dominate in Search rankings in INDIA and not in globe becz i want to be on top only in INDIA.

.info doesn't target much traffic than .com

mypaintball.com CAN beat .info easily in global market + u will get traffic too so from SEO point of view for traffic u need to go with .COM,,,,,,,,

    That's really cool,,,,,,,,,,,,

mypaintball.com TARGET this as ur main site

paintball.info Make this site as blog site via WORDPRESS and submit to BLOG directories,,,,,,,.

Ur blog would get indexed fast and u must then put the link of ur main site www.mypaintball.com in ur blog by which ur main site would get relevant and good traffic.

In this way u can dominate much much better

But don't link exchange with ur blog and ur main site. Only one link from ur blog site to ur main site is better.

In terms of SEO, TLD's (.info, .com) do not matter. Anyone who disputes this is wrong.

In terms of marketing and branding, the .com is better for direct traffic.

    Buddy it does matter,,,,,,,,,,
Its based on clearly on experiments and research.
From SEO point of view it does matter.
Why do we need traffic? if u can answer this u would go with .com which is global
VIa .info u can't topple .com rather .com would be easier to beat a site with .info
So when it comes to competition u need to target .com which is better in all terms.

    I wholeheartedly agree with MoneyMoose.

No disrespect RULE but after taking a quick peek at your blog, how on earth can I take someone serious when they can't even type right?

"ur" and "coz" really don't look professional. Not by a long stretch of the imagination.

You are incorrect. TLD is simply a way to categorize domain names. Please stop spreading misinformation - newbies might be influenced by you.

RULE has made some good points in his posts, compared to some outright crap from other people. He's clearly not English/American so its not fair to bring his typing into it.

I like .info sites for content type sites if you can get strong names.
