just a quick question, i am designing my first site as a means of learning and was wondering if there should be such a difference in the contents font between internet explorer and mozilla firefox, seems to me that when i view my site ie looks grand but ff not so nice but it doesnt seem to lok that different on other sites?? www***DOT***glen-lodge.co.uk/quilly/quilly.html
Considering that any browser will let the user customize the view size; you best way to keep the look of your site consistent across all browsers is to set the font size in pixels. Based on that, you should keep the same font-family for all browsers.
If you're talking about the glen-lodge site - the text looks the same in FF and IE6 to me. Both look fine. But in IE the background is much paler. It looks like a background colour isn't working.
Internet Explorer 6 does not support transparent PNG and will render any transparency in gray. There are JavaScript-based hacks available though.
Btw, this has nothing to do with this, but is a tip: If you set a font-size to something like: 12.5 Then FF and Opera see it as 13 while IE and Safari see it as 12. Could call it a CSS hack I guess.
