Hey guys I am looking to start a Free web hosting company, I am looking to find someone who can help me with this venture. I have been with hosting for a long, long time since I was 14 and I am 17 years old now and working online still. I own www.picanahost.com and quite a few other sites, I am looking to concentrate on a free web hosting company, as well as meeting new people. We can figure out the business plan when I find a partner to help me with this project!
I own a free hosting company, I am intrested in expanding and or having partners. I sent you a PM with my email.
Alright, for the people expecting me to pay for everything in recent PMs you must also have a paypal account with more than $50 in their and dont expect me to pay for everything
Explain your business plan, and I might be interested. I do not need you to pay for everything. You just have to do the techie crap. That said, free does not pay one person, much less two. I have 11+ years making money online, but not in hosting. However, this is a business, and it's about making money. Providing value is nice in theory, but you have to pay for resources, and turn a profit. If you can explain to me your free hosting theory, I may be interested.
I would be willing to put forward lets say 100$ for something I think is worth while, Give us some more information, and I will be glad to help.
Not really, I have 2 servers on standby for a new project, I will not spend lots of money straight away, I like to see how things go first.
i own a hosting company and many servers...but how do you expect to make money offering "free" hosting it would seem to me even if you are putting ads on peoples sites (and many of the BIGGEST companies doing that have all gone under or operate as a loss leader) then the best you get is some ad revenue. The problem is, if a person can't afford even CHEAP hosting, they are not going to be too business savvy and won't have a lot of "legitimate" site visitors. They wont have a growing blog or service etc. ANd they ones that DO get traffic are proxys, warez and porn...things you DON't want on a server maybe you have something different in mind...?
I own a free web hosting company, And I must say there are other ways to making a free host work, Example: Offer paid plans when they reach their free hosted quota limits, Many people have negative views on free hosts, They are not all bad.
Well, The link is in my signature, what you see is a basic forum, where people apply, The only posting needed is when people apply for hosting, See I offer 15GB bandwidth and 500mb of space with cpanel, But when they reach that limit rather than kick them off my servers, I work with them, and they can purchase more bandwidth and storage, That alone pays for the servers, and keeps my clients happy. The free and paid clients are on different servers, And everyone is happy
so u have a server just for the freeebies, and another for people who upgrade? how much to upgrade? whats your conversion rate...how long before they upgrade? I owuld have to seriously weigh the costs of providing resources and support for free, versus how much time it takes to make up just a breakeven for what was fronted.
People upgrade when they hit over 16GB bandwidth and 650MB of disk space, yes I have 4 servers in total, One server is on raid, mainly used for backups. To upgrade there would be a cost of $7.50 per month this would put people on a new server, with 1000GB of bandwidth and 100GB of storage. We can't offer more than that as we do not want to oversell. Should people need more than this ( they go over this limit ) we can come to some arrangement, but we would talk about other options. We are thinking about making a paid hosting site, a sister site to crystal-core if you like, this way it would be more simple to manage, and we could offer higher based plans.
1000GB bw???? for 7 bucks? a whole terabyte? so 10 customers is a 10TB? fo only 70B....i can't get servers for that much. I mean its good your getting 7.50 out of them, but i would think "free' people would go for ridiculous hostgator type deals where they get 10 billion MB of everything for only 2.99/mo I still am not seeing the profit. when i say conversion rate, I mean what percentage of FREE people, convert to paid, and after HOW long. You would have to show me hard numbers.... how much does your server cost (the free and the paid) You said you have 4 servers, 1 for backups 1 for free folk and i guess 2 for paying customers. so lets say you have BUDGET servers (one being RAID at that ) at $150/mo thats 600 per month you would need 80 PAYING customers just to break even now that is just on server cost. That is not maintenece, admin of servers, marketing, webdesign or SUPPORT! not to mention all the FREE customers eating up bandwidth, space and support that could go to a paying customer. Lets say you figured it costs you $3 per month per free customer and they stay free for 6 months and then convert to pay thats $18 that means for the first 2.5 months, I am just trying to recover costs.plus another 2 months just to break even on the paid stuff so now its about 5 months before i break even on that customer (just on hosting space) finally after 6 months of ME paying for them to get hosted, and 5 months of them paying, on month 12 a YEAR later I actually make $4....assuming i had NOTHIGN but server costs To me, thats a lot of my own resources to go for a whole year before i start to see anything How long does a person stay a customer? when you spread the TOTAL costs out over a year, and then divide that by free and paying customers...how much GROSS is made? then take out expenses for the last 12 months how much PROFIT is made? Of course your numbers will vary those are examples, I don't expect you to post them publicly....but at the same time I would need to see MUCH better margings than that for it to even be worth my time AS A SIDE NOTE...i am interested in setting up one of those GET YOUR OWN FREE FORUM sites...if i can find an auto install script that does it
