Get a duo, or if you can afford one a quad, they are so fast!

wrong...dual core=stripped down version of core2duo. It is ALSO used to refer to processors with 2 cores
Only Intel and AMD for the consumer market...
I've already explained this earlier...please go through my other posts in this topic
They are already there....but used in servers
I guess I've said what you said in the first para earlier too.
Let me get this clear, I used to have a celeron 1.7 GHz a few months back, When i used to run Opera, Firefox, YIM, Pidgin etc on it, it used to lag. Now I have a dual core 2GHZ, and all those applications along with more run like a breeze. The difference in not slight, dual cores gives 10 times more performance

    Hdd- 80GB(IDE)->500GB(SATA)

Celeron is better for low budget, I first celeron family desktop 1.7 Ghz. then 2.4 ghz, they all was good, if your budget you can purchase Dual Core..
    thanks

Thanks for the reply crownrahul :), yea sure I have a Dual Core in mind

    500 GB, that's sweet !!!!

actually that might be the difference, you had a 80 gb IDE and a 512 mb ram and then you upgraded to a 500 GB SATA.

You gonna see a speed difference for sure :)

    Thanks...
I guess I told this earlier...
Bigger Hdds, floppy drives etc etc, slow down the speed and not increase them

celerons are basically dual cores with a processor disabled and underclocked and other features disabled

    dual cores ftw?

    LOL
    Seriously....made me laugh like hell
I will believe your theory if you explain this to me:
Why would Intel develop a dual core, disable one of the cores, underclock it, disable other advanced features and then sell for less than half the price? And then remove the limitations and release it after AMD released it's dual core? :p

Note to others: Don't believe Meth_'s theory, He's seriously misinformed
No offence mate but it simply doesn't make any sense

the stripped down version is either core duo or core solo (now rebranded as celeron processors)
dual core just means two cores

Because not every processor made is upto the "standards" for a dual core processor (it's a very hard process getting them correct) and most of the time there's just a fault with ONE core, so they disable ONE core and everything faulty with it and rebrand the processor as a celeron

    see: AMD triple core processors

I won't get into an argument...
dual core is the stripped down version or core2duo
Celeron is a stripped down version of PIII

find me a processor branded "dual core"
where the reference "dual core" isn't telling people that there's more than one core

    there's pentium #/pro ect
pentium D (which you might be confusing for "dual core")
    core 2 duo
    core duo
    core solo
    celeron

    Celeron's are crippled core2duos?
    DUDE SERIOUSLY!!!!
    Celeron's are stripepd down PIII....
Hold on, I'll try to find you a article on some reputed website so that you can clear your facts
    *starts googling
    http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn...ore-detail.htm?iid=learn_proc+pentium_desktop
    http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/Desktop/core2duo-detail.htm?iid=learn_proc+c2d_desktop

    not confusing....
    pentium D=2 prescott processors
    dual core is different
    http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/9797/scrshtms2.jpg
My cousion has a Pentium D and it says Pentium D in his system properties and not Pentium Dual-core.

    http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080528055314AAXxOab

And yea, even if this doesn't satisfy you, there's nothing more I can do

aye, I thought you meant a while new brand named "Intel dual core", not Pentium dual core... in that case yeah you're right

it's still Intel "pentium" dual core
