What to do with spare PC?

I have a spare PC that I haven't turned on in months and was thinking of repurposing it.

I was thinking of a web server or DVR, but was wondering if there was any other cool stuff to do with it?

Anyone transformed one of their old PCs?

    Turn it into a honeypot

I turned one of my old PCs into a server so I could learn more about Apache and server security. But in the end it just sat there and did nothing.

I'd also suggest you use it as a server. You can learn a lot from it.

Donate it to someone who is in need of a PC if you are not very serious about converting it into a server.

I've never heard of that before - it looks cool. I had something similar going a while ago using VNC on 2 XP boxes, but once I got over the initial thrill of seeing it all work - I couldn't really find a use for it.

Put it in the corner of your room and let it get filled with dust :)

Well on my spare PC. I download movies, songs and other stuff because it is not easy to find some good English movies in local markets.:D

Sometimes I do some experiments with that PC.:D

make sure it can run for a long time and install software for autosurfing on other sites that exchange traffic. You will get traffic that you can sell.. Also you can run other services on it: like mail, ftp, web server, etc. Turn it into a money making machine ;)

That's the best suggestion so far. I've heard all sorts of crazy stuff about Asterisk and what people are doing with it. I wish I had the balls to get into telephony stuff.

As suggested before you could turn it in to a server. If not a webserver, maybe a media server.

a lot of interesting suggestions that I never thought of:

seeding torrent and making money through PPI - I may have to look further into this one.

upgrade it to a gaming machine - I already have a gaming machine so don't need another one.

making it run 24/7 for traffic exchanges and then selling the traffic - another interesting idea I never thought of, thanks

set it up to run asterisk - funny you should mention this because I just watched this video - http://youtube.com/watch?v=UP9b_FEZuUE . Sounds awesome, now I just need to get the balls to dive into it more.

In regards to the question about specs - it has been so long since I have messed with this thing I can't even remember. It is about 6 years old, but I was still using it to play WoW before I got my new rig. So it's not a beast by any means, but can handle a fair load.

A lot of great suggestions, thanks to everyone.
