Question on how to Sell Content (articles)

Okay well I wasn't going to post this in the section for fear of never getting a reply cause all people want to do there is buy, sell, and trade. Anyway...

I've never sold any content before and I'm a little unsure of what it means to sell articles. Maybe you can help me... which ones is correct... does it mean:

    1. You write the articles with no mention or link to your site, so that when they purchase it its almost as though they wrote it.

    2. You write articles and list your name and site on it, so that when they buy it and put it on there site, they'll know who actually made it.

    3. You write the articles with no mention or link to your site, but you can still post it on your site, and what your selling is just the copyright for someone else to post your content on there site.

    4. You write the articles and list your name and the site you are writing them for, then you can post them on your site, then just sell the copyright for someone else to post your content on there site.

Or some other senerio that I have missed out, please advise.

    Thanks

When you write an article for someone else you also give them full right and ownership of it. You do not get credit or a byline or a link to your site (except in special circumstances where an arrangement is made with the buyer).

The buyer of your articles will be free to do with them as they wish and you will not be permitted to reuse or publish them. In effect they are not yours and it is as though you never wrote them.

When someone buys your article they may give you the url where it is published. When they do that you can use that url as an example of your writing ie your portfolio.

Generally new writers will offer to write a certain number of articles for free to get a reputation, but not always.

Thanks for the quick reply... I run a technology site but having multiple sites in the works I'm thinking about writing some "Running a Website Tips" but my site is a technology site so it wouldn't fit in to much, so I might just sell them.

You may be better off if you find buyers for your articles before you write them.

Alternatively you could write the articles and submit them to places like Ezine Articles along with links to your site in the author resource. Unless you are in need of a few bucks this would be a much better use of your articles and will help with your SERPs and traffic for years to come.

Wait, so what would help with my SERPs and traffic? Writing the articles then putting them up on Ezine articles?

Yes, it would give you backlinks to your website. If the articles are of interest to people they will read them and perhaps click on your link to visit. Also, other websites will republish the articles along with your links and over time your backlinks will continue to grow.

With Ezine Articles you can even place a link in the body of the article using a relevant keyword for your site.

So your saying that by using the service Ezine I am allowed to have a link back to my site and my name in the article I'm selling?

Or am I just confused on what Ezine does...?

(sorry for all the question... already added rep for your help so far)

Yes you are correct - take a look at this example The Classic Rock Age And Today's Youth I wrote this in order to help promote one of my sites. I have placed relevant links in the author resource and my name is listed as the author. You can even add an avatar if you like. In this particular article I did not place a link in the body, but that is permitted.

There are many other article directory sites like Ezine Articles, but they are by far the best

So is http://www.classicrockbands.info/ your site? Cause if it is, then I can see why that would be a big help. But from Ezine articles, your articles just appear to people... so you submitted that free...?

In short... is Ezine Article just a place to post your articles with hopes of getting people to click the links or place that article on there site with those links? And Ezine Article is free to submit to obviously? So there is no profit out of it, just lasting backlinks and traffic, correct?

Yes, it is free to submit articles to them. They in turn get to put AdSense ads on your articles. Ezine Articles ranks really well in the search engines and they do get a lot of traffic because of that.

Whenever I check the traffic stats of my sites I always see clicks coming from EA. I use Google Alerts to inform me of when they find links to my sites and I commonly receive alerts that are the result of my articles being republished.

People can use articles found on EA on their own sites and blogs, but are required to include the authors links. Keep in mind that there are some unscrupulous webmasters who will delet them, but most will be honest and leave them in.

Correct, that is why I say this is the best use of your articles unless you need the cash - which wouldnt be much as people generally pay only 1 to 2 cents per word

Thanks a lot for the help man... sounds like Ezine is the place to go to exchange your articles for future traffic.

ANd your Google Alerts thing you mentioned... did you do that through Googles Webmaster tools?

go to http://www.google.com/alerts?hl=en and type in your url and choose comprehensive and as it happens - when G finds a link to your site they will send you an automated email. Very handy. You can use the alerts for any keyword/phrase or url

Yes, you still own the content and can do with it what you wish. However, if you publish it on another site such as EA and then use it on your own site it will be viewed as duplicate content by the SEs (Search Engines). Some duplicate content is OK, but you want to be careful that as much of your content as possible is unique only to your site.

Many people will rewrite their articles to make it different and publish a variation on both EA and their own site.
