What to do with a script nobody wants?

Imagine you spent 6 months developing a script full of features, then you find out nobody wants your script not even for free, what would you do?

Put it up as open source and try to get other developers to incorporate their features into your script and also develop your script further. I guess that should help rather than leaving it to rot.

If you think that that is a joke, then let it be a joke. Congrats on your free script, I am sure it will go very far with good attitude like yours.

Just to be clear; are we talking about a script you've actually developed here, or is this a hypothetical situation?

If the former then I'd suggest you try developing scripts to cater for under exploited niches. Also, look at what features you could add that other scripts either don't include, or which are less useful than they could be. And make sure that the overall quality of the script is high. Test the script thoughroughly and deal with any issues you find.

If the latter, then I 'd guess you're just trying to get your post count up.

If you can give the script (encoded surely), then we can say how it can be used?Or you can just explain what your script is about?

Here is an idea - give us some sort of hint or clue as to what this script does. Better yet, tell us all about it. How can any of us tell you what you should do with it if we have no idea about what "it" is?

wow such a pessimistic attitude lol how negative can you get :|

alright, it does sounds more like a hypothetical situation, go to freelancing sites, keep them in your RSS reader, the script is already done, hurray for that! eventually a person will post a project about needing a script similar like yours, set up a preview site so he can test it live. The possibility of you getting chosen and get a nice pay is around 40-80% if the script mostly does what he wants he probably will ask for a few tweaks but thats pretty common.

As for opening the sources, it's not really a bad idea, but it's going to take a while to build a community and wait for other developers to join in.

    and as for

If you are a developer and know about design patterns you can make a script that simplifies what SCRIPT B does, like for example, phpBB needs to be modded pretty badly and you have to edit the sources files, why not make a forum system that have a plugin system (like wordpress plugin system). People love setting things easily, and thats really a way to capture the public.

Also, who cares if there are other alternatives out there, jesus, there are millions out there and in here the net.

What is the script? Sounds like wisdomtool is right; open source it; it might make some money and make people happy. Although you have a weird attitude for someone who has been coding for 6 months. Why did you do that to start with?

I think he coded the script himself and he coded it by planning to sell it and make some decent money and till now no one is interested with his script so he is asking the question and this attitude is normal when someone gets his work rubbish for 6 months hard work.

The day i will ever give anything for free again in internet is the day when chickens will speak english.
You know why? Because i just find the idea of people like you using my scripts for free completely disgusting...almost a crime.

Then I really don't see what's the point of this thread.... If you coded a script and nobody wants it, even for free, then you have little options available. You don't want to give it for free, you don't want to make it open source and you surely don't want to tell us what it does....

wow... google is a crime.. ubuntu must be beyond a crime (along with all the applications under GPL) and freeware. (and no, gpl and freeware are not the same)

I'm getting the feeling that you are pretty confused on how it works and how does people that offer free stuff manages to get a good heap of money.

Understand that the word "free" makes thousands(to millions) turn their head, if you are releasing it GPL or MIT or any other license eventually there will be people that will donate to your project for your efforts and to show their thanks its just the least they can do.

Prediction: Expect chickens to talk english soon :p
