i wasnt sure if this was to go in here or the link building forum, but recently after achieving top spots (number 1/2/3 in google), some of my rankings for my chosen keywords have dropped right out the listings. they've always jumped around a lot, but never dropped out completely. anybody have experience of this? i think it may be due to link building too quickly (however i doubt it as i havent really). when can i expect my listings to reappear? surely if one gets penalized due to excess link building, building more links to increase listings is probs not the best idea.
How old is the site? We would need more details to be able to determine what's wrong. It might be just a temporary issue and your rankings might be back in a couple of days or weeks.
Everybody face this kind of problem, friend. Don't think too much about this problem, give it a couple of days and then see where you are with your chosen keywords. Google algo is really mysterious and this is one of their many mysteries. Don't spend too much time trying to demystify it because you will know the whole truth.
my domain is around 10 years old i think! and i'm sure it's not down to link building as i only get relevant links and do it at a steady pace. i've cooled off a bit recently but surely this can't be so impactful. all i've stopped doing is free directory submission and this has never been affective really. has it?
You will know if its banned IF you search it in an SE using its URL itself (not the KW/s) then it still does not appear.
Just wait a little. It might take a couple of weeks or months as search engines are unpredictable.Same thing happend to me for 2 of my websites.
Hmmm... link building should gradual and even if it's a massive jump, there's only slight possibility that it has been penalized. Most probably the niche which you are in, is too competitive and thus making position ranking varies a lot.
happens all the time. what i think is happening is that google is testing to see what kind of response your site gets from being in the results and not in the results. testing the effectiveness of your site for searchers .. also sudden increases in links cause this kind of jumping around particulary where the industry standard is different quantity of links created over time or linking from pages that previously didn't have links .. or high PR links suddenly appearing .. slow and steady link creation and you should see steady rise ..
Yeah, I've read it somewhere that soemtimes this does happen. Google can sometimes make mistakes as well. Usually the max time it takes to take back your listings is two months. Only one case, most usually in two weeks.
thanks for your replies. i am used to my listings variating rapidly, but i've not experience such a massive drop before, so i am still a little worried!
Going through the same situation with some sites. Everything is alright... but this is frustrating the heck out of me . Just going to wait it out! Not really sure if there's a "cure" since it happened to more than one site.
you might stop using keywords in those pages, other website who might linking to you through those keywords stopped. need more details. anyway its a changing process. keep more linking and more seo
Backlinks from low quality sites may have been devalued causing a drop in rankings. Get some high quality links.
