I bought a domain name yesterday that was listed as a PR6, but once I did the registration the PR checker shows 0 PR. I am hoping that is just due to the transition. But my question for you is, if a site has a PR6 how can it not have one single listing at Google? It looks like there would be at least something there due to the fact that the site was granted a PR6, even if the previous owner knew nothing about PR and SEO. The domain only expired a month ago. I am very knew to all of this. Educate me, will you?
a month ago expired MAY result in all SERPS in G being lost if the site was expired and much of the PR was from BLs where existing reciprocal links are checked frequently - then that sites links may have expired as well and thus the PR only history never to be obtained again after reactivation of a site. since you give us NO details on the site - there is no precise real help you may expect beyond what you have already on this page/thread. consider this loss as a blessong now you have what you really NEED - an EMPTY domain ready to be filled with YOUR own self created content. all that really should matter to you is to have a good keyword related site NAME. all content/SERPS and PR can easily be rebuilt by you in the course of the next few years ( next several thousand working hours ). have fun in starting your site from scratch - working is far more fun on empty space rather than within the framework created by a foreigner!
Thanks for the tips. I agree with you about the blank slate, but I was really curious to see what the site was all about. (it is brightlamps.com, by the way) And this is the message I got when I tried to add it to the Google Webmaster Tools section, (thanks for that too, winsoar) General HTTP error: Domain name not found As far as the PR being fake, I don't think it is. I got the domain on one of the big domain listing sites.
I'm surprised it showed as a PR 6. Alexa shows no (Alexa toolbar) traffic to that site in the past year. http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/brightlamps.com I can't bring up its site history (& view past incarnations of the site) as: "We're sorry, access to http://brightlamps.com has been blocked by the site owner via robots.txt." http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://brightlamps.com Google updates PR regularly, if that site expired in May or earlier then it has likely lost whatever PR it originally had.
I checked several places before I registered it that said it was available. I wish I could find out who the "site owner" is supposed to be. I also wonder how it has a PR6 with no traffic for a year. Weird.
my 2 cents worth: the easiest way of getting a fake PR: PageRank can be cloaked from a domain. Use a 'Permanent Shifted' Domain forwarding on your domain, and google gives it a PR same as the domain its forwarded to. There are many other ways to get a fake PR. Obviously the domain wont have any traffic or even a website (thus no archive.org listings). Once the domain is transferred, the PR is gone. Poof! Example: Try this link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&suggon=0&q=info:buyappraisal.com&btnG=Search Notice how the result is 'domainappraisal' even though you searched for info of buyappraisal. The buyappraisal site shows a PR5. Now if you bought this domain, I'm willing to put my money that the PR is going to vanish in a week or two (however long it takes google to update) Check the back links here: http://www.google.com/search?q=link:http://buyappraisal.com/&pws=0&gl=US PR5 and 3 links?? Also, onm these links, I couldn't find a link to buyappraisal... Hope this helps..
