    Hi everybody,

I know that domain names plays good role in search ranking. If the keyword in search is having in your domain name, search engines lists that site ahead and ranks higher.

Now I am wondering wich domain name is better the domain name having keywords but not seperated (e.g. freeseotipstechniques.com)

    -OR-

The domain name having keywords separated with hyphen(-) (e.g. free-seo-tips-techniques.com)

I would bought both of them if i had the same problem ...
You can take a hosting plan with godaddy and redirect the second domain to that . I think that godaddy gives the second domain only for 2$ ...

    freeseotipstechniques.com is definitely better than free-seo-tips-techniques.com .

The second one is to be bought only if the first one was not available and you have rank for Free Seo Tips Techniques

Hyphens might be a tiny bit better in terms of SEO but kills the value of the name for resale.

if your keyword is in your domain, hyphen or not, it will rank better in the SERPs. Non hyphen is better for human consumption.

I think search engine point of view both will serve the same purpose....but yes, as far as beauty of a name is concerned, hyphens certainly dont look good. Well, you have lot of sites out there, pretty successful, that come with hyphens. SEO is not an issue. One positive point of keeping hyphen is it does not look jumbled up when the name is long, as the case here. So, you uncllutter this long name by dividers, people dont get confused, they know where one word is coming to an end and where the new one is starting....:)

it may help people remember your site. Thats i belive is ok.

I couldn't disagree more. Not all search engine surfers are domainers. Start thinking outside the domain industry. I do agree that having the keyword is key. Less than 1% of the world are probably domainers. The other 99% want readability and convenience. Hyphens like free-seo-tips.com pass the "billboard test" for the majority of the world.

it doesn't make sense!!!!!!!!!! The domain isn't properly phrased.. freeseotipstechniques.com..?

    freeseotips.com
    freeseotechniques.com
    seotips.com
    seotechniques.com
    websiteseo.com
    freeseohelp.com

...these are all better than that .com that you're referencing that doesn't make sense...

..a search engine point of view.. even though it might not seem to discriminate.. the one without the hyphens will have priority over the hyphened domain..

I would go for free-seo-tips-techniques.com if it is SE traffic you want, they would rank the same but with hyphens it is easier to read so it would be clicked more.

Also I see some people in here that said that you should go for a shorter domain so it would be easier to remember the name, really people bookmark and click so if your looking for SE traffic you would rather go for the long keyword rich domain you suggest instead. Get a short one for your print stuff for offline marketing instead.

    Just my experience.

    Sincerely,
    Leif Bohlin

Well.. Even I used to think that a domain name without Hyphens is good. But, I came to know from many Pros that Search Engines can easily read the domain name which has hyphes between words. But, don't think so much. Just buy both the domains and redirect one to the another! Problem Solved! :)
