I wouldn't say he knows jack about SEO, probably knows more about SEO than anyone of us since he has some access to the Google ranking algorithm while we have to rely on testing and anecdotal evidence.

That's not to say I think people should hang on every word this employee of Google says since CLEARLY his job is to feed us the most BASIC of SEO information that the most retarded newb could find online quite easily.

They are so basic you might as well say these are SEO tips-

    1. Buy a domain and add hosting.
    2. Add content to your domain.
    3. Learn that there is no title tag in the head of HTML documents, it's a blinking element. Pet peeve of mine!
    4. Pay your web host on time to renew your domain.
    5. Say a little prayer every night that a website owner will link to your content tomorrow morning for no reason what so ever.

Real SEO tips are like the ones I just posted to http://www.seo-consultant-services.co.uk/seo-tips.html

I don't see real tips like these coming from people like Matt Cutts.

ALL my real SEO tips have been thoroughly tested and confirmed by myself over the last 5+ years through countless SEO tests and observations of real world examples.

Exactly. It's not like he's going to confirm/deny anything but the most basic SEO tips. Hell - the more people know about SEO, the more they can mess with google's search results (which is not what they want)

    search engine = magic
    engineer = magician

"As a magician I promise never to reveal the secret of any illusion to a non-magician, unless that one swears to uphold the Magician's Oath in turn. I promise never to perform any illusion for any non-magician without first practicing the effect until I can perform it well enough to maintain the illusion of magic."

he's not being paid to give us tips. He's being paid to throw us off and then fight over him. I am curious however and would like to see some honest comments:
Anyone who has learned something from a post of his that has really helped increase his SEO success rate ... share it.
I'm sure some people have, but myself have not heard anything like it from anybody.

I pulled all my sites from webmasters console and analytics. Quit using my Gmail account and never go near blogger or blogspot blogs and disabled Adsense in my hosts file.

I particularly don't like my viewing habits being tracked that far and wide. the final straw for me was when it was revealed that Gmail *never* deletes any email, even if you delete it from your account.

As far as SEO goes, follow Matt Cutt's rules and you'll never get ahead. Remember, Google indexing is a semi-automated system and it's nowhere near perfect because google spends more time and $$$ on tracking internet users' habits for their marketing programs. Considering computers are only as smart as the people that program them, that leaves a lot of leeway.

Sometimes things are so simple that we miss it. These are the most important factors and should not be overlooked in any SEO endeavor. Thanks for the reminder.

What I wonder, in life there are black and white people. Mix them and you get a mulatto (like Obama, Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, or me with a black mom and white dad). So does that make us SEO's who mix black hat and white hat techniques "Mulatto hats" ??? Seems it's en-vogue these days to do the twist and mix. I guess Matt Cutts doesn't like peanut butter and chocolate - then again, how can we get mad at poor Matt who saw his stock options drop by almost 40% since last November. I heard playtime at the Googlplex has been cut back and they took all the silly soakers and nerf guns out of the offices.

I think most of the posts in this thread are overlooking 2 things -
    1) Matt Cutts is part of google's 'anti-spam' team - any SEO tips he recommends are going to be the whitest of white Google endorsed methods.
    2) USA today isn't an SEO specialist platform - that piece is as much PR - meaning Public Relations, not PargeRank - as anything else.

I think a lot of webmasters lost respect for Google because they are two-faced. For example, any webmaster who publishes MFA sites with Adsense on them will get banned but it's ok for SEDO and GoDaddy to use "Adsense ofr Domains" to monetize parked websites.

Ask Matt Cutts to dissect why it's ok for parked domains to be monetized through a big company like goDaddy but it's not ok for individual webmasters to do the same thing. White Hat is good for the goose but not the gander...

When you are blinded by cash and adsense cheques, you can't see a single face, let alone two faces :D

and yes, that's Matt Cutts all dolled up as a pussy cat  I think he was auditioning for a part in Rocky Horror but he forgot that kitties don't suck blood, unless they're evil transexual transvestite thundercats from transylvania - Looks like Google employees have an awful lot of spare time on their hands (err, paws) - meoooow

I don't think he gets paid to be fair and objective...Sort of like a political lobbyist.
