    Hi,

ive been given a little research project and im trying to ascertain which is best for Natural SEO purposes.

    a. subdomains in our website ie: seo.domain.com
    b. Folders in the main website ie: domain.com/seo
    c. or like domain.com/seo.html

Im very new to seo, but suggested off the top of my head that folders would be best, but in the back of mind thought that there would be little difference between the three.... any thoughts?

    thanks,

    Scott

It's all down to personal preference.

    Simple as that.

actually in my opinion it is not as simple as whatever you like, it is more complex. Search engines see sub directories as separate islands on a site, I typically recommend ending your extensions with .html. and using a folder structure where it makes sense. You want to keep your site as flat as possible.

    for example

    or even

if you are looking for some exact match bonus be careful with the hyphens I wouldn't use more than one anyway though. If you need more than one, use a folder.

keep the structure clean and as flat as possible.

They all are equal in value, choose one format and stick with it.

    -correction

if your sections will have enough unique content and a strong enough brand to stand as destinations in their own right then subdomains are probably best...especially from a branding and marketing standpoint.

if you do not intend to make them powerhouse market leaders then folders is probably a better call.

if it is strong enough to be a real destination I prefer to use subdomains than directories. I think being a subdomain helps it stand out more and makes it easier for it to be perceived as a separate brand and destination in the eyes of consumers.

perhaps I needed to clarify my thought ssandecki I was didn't explain myself well enough

I asked a similar question, you can find this topic in the search feature of the forum. It depends on what you need to do with the site, if the new page is on topic - i would suggest a folder with the keyword as the extension.

    As jhambly suggests:

Is a nice one to go with.
