Well certainly on the mechanics of the banking industry, there is little question of how it functions. The problem is that most people are either uninterested or cannot understand it. And so it continues.
I have seen those movies too. Do you believe that Fractional Reserve System is the main weapon in the hands of the Fed to inflate the economy? And if it is, would shifting to Full Reserve System blunt Fed's powers? Do you know any country that uses Full Reserve Banking system? I couldn't find this information.
I don't know how anyone can believe otherwise. A metal standard keeps the government honest. It forces them to raise taxes, and pay for whatever they buy whether it is warfare or welfare. Fractional banking, particularly in a global economy, with the privilege of being the world's reserve currency, allows for fraudulent (counterfeit) creation of wealth. It is in effect, stealing. If you learn nothing else in 2008, learn how the banking system works. The FED, and every central bank's powers. You don't need a central bank. The market can determine what is and is not acceptable forms of money. Government can't win a war with a country that spends 1/100th of it's budget on weapons, how the hell are they going to plan an economy? The notion that the government can form a coherent and honest monetary policy is a total myth. None do. But there might be a time again for that, because the current system is crashing. I think Islamic banking advocates 100% reserves, however no country practices 100% Islamic banking. Probably why Muslims and Islam are seen as such a threat.
